Just as automation is reducing the demand for workers, white collar as much as blue collar, we get some politicians deciding we need immigrant labor.

Those politicians were born in the 1940s and back then staff shortages were the limiting factor in the economy. That all changed in 1975

but people born in the 1940s and earlier tend to think nothing ever changes, so they make crap decisions.

And here's the big problem between the reds and the blues, the reds gain a lot of support from the lower income ranges, the ones that get hit first when immigrants who don't speak the language well arrive and take the manual labor jobs.

Which causes the confusing situation is the red team members are anti immigration, when flooding the country with cheap workers is one way the big companies boost their profits, it is a right wing policy by definition because it is moving money from the lower paid up to the wealthiest section of society.

As an electrician I was displaced from my job in England when the government paid Polish electricians to come to the country. I knew that was a right wing move and so did everyone else but don't try to explain that over here because they won't believe you.

And that's the big difference, if only the Democratic Party members would accept that the red team might have a point we could all focus on getting the government to do the right things instead of playing the red team / blue team game.

Automation
Andrew Yang went through what we should expect to see in the immediate future, it is already happening and will continue from now forward. He got zero delegates in the DNC primary.

Right now there are complete shopping malls closing, and that was before COVID.

Blame Amazon but it was going to happen anyway. It might have been Alibaba or Walmart Online or someone else.

Increasing automation is saving you money, and eliminating jobs.

I worked in a successful retailer and staffing levels are now about half what they were 5 years ago.

Customers demanded increases in the pay rates so staff levels went down and automation went up.

Automation and technology increases the demand for workers. They just do different work, multiple times more fitting for the human being.

I'm hearing about plans for demonstrations and expectation of rioting after the election. You've got to be kidding, there's only millimeters between the two sides.

Both candidates are really old and they're both right wing. Joe helped increase the sentences for prisoners by a factor of 3 in many cases. Donald said nice things about construction workers and that he would bring back jobs, but construction workers in California are now paid a fraction of what they got decades ago.

Nice words, no delivery.

Sad to say but neither one was right and we are going to have to accept that neither team had a good leader.

I'm not in either team, but my avatar says: 'if you can't be right at least be cute'.

There are two issues in play here. Ordinary illegal economic migration is one. Companies do indeed welcome illegal workers, especially when they can connive with government about lax enforcement. Trump, himself, was found to be employing illegal aliens. But all of the nativist scare-mongering that Trump engaged in, his touting of "The Wall," was not directed at ordinary illegal economic migrants. It specifically concerned refugees from Central America, keeping them out of the country at all costs, and treating them harshly if they managed to get in.

OK, so if Biden wins you blue guys have got to decide what to do about the thing the reds are all upset about, immigration.

Just think: COVID is on the rise, it is unpredictable, unstable, increase the population and you increase the population density, COVID could take off in a big way. Not a nice surprise for those very nice immigrants.

It doesn't take a genius to see the problems that illegal immigration has had on domestic jobs. In California, there are some jobs that are taken by Mexicans and other Latinos almost like an unofficial caste system. Things like landscapers, hotel maids, construction workers. When you move to the Eastern United States those jobs often go to African Americans, but migrant workers as they hit saturation levels are slowly spreading out across the country where they are starting to displace traditional local workers. But even still, I was surprised leaving California when I encountered white working class women working as motel maids etc. because it seemed like it was the unwritten rule that only a Mexican could do that job since I was a kid growing up in California.

The wealthy are why the immigration problem doesn't get solved.

Keep immigrants out and you get higher cost American born labor.

Give them amnesty like Reagan did and you get immigrants demanding higher pay for their labor.

Much easier for the wealthy to gain more wealth by keeping them illegal, and now, imprisoning them and forcing them into labor there.

That was my point: the only illegal immigration the Right cares about is Central American asylum seekers.
