Former Baptist minister here. Spent a decade in the wilderness. Much has changed, but God preserved me through it all.

I'm here to gain insights, participate in discussions, and to find friends. It's hard to talk to people around me about the spiritual life.

Thanks!

Hello wayofthepromise. What exactly do you mean you spent a decade in the wilderness?
I chose a sparse way of explaining a long story. Generally, a "wilderness experience" is likened to a time of great trial. In my case, I ran from God and spent years looking for ways to live happily outside of God's protective care.

If you don't mind answering, what drove you out into the wilderness?
I had finished my bachelor's degree, spending much time in the humanities department. Having been bombarded with secular ideas, especially from respected professors who also made sure to ridicule Christian belief any chance they got, my mind began to conform. Seeking pleasure, I found intoxicating fulfillment. These things were all of no real value, of course, but at the time I couldn't see that.

Okay, I wasn't sure if you meant a spiritual wilderness or an actual wilderness in the mountains or desert or somewhere

Fair enough. Certain environments can be hazardous to one's faith. If you're still in that environment, I'll pray that your faith doesn't fail. Welcome back.

I'm 45 now, I have a 15 month old daughter, and a successful career I'd never jeopardize by scandal. My temptations have taken a different form, but I'm not longer susceptible to the opinions of the worldly wise.
