  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I am looking for a good name for my baby. It has to have a meaning that I really like.

I have tried searching a few baby name sites, but most don't search by meaning.

Does anyone know of a good site that searches by meaning.

I am looking for both boy and girl names.

The meaning I would like to have is something like "God has answered" or "answered prayer" or something like that.

Or even "God gave me"

THanks for those ideas.

I have been thinking about Anneliese

Jeremiah is out - that is my nephews name. :D

Samuel is nice too, but again, that's kinda out, because I have a friend whose son is Samuel (the same age as my first child - they also have a Daniel, which is my son's name LOL)

Boy names always seem harder to me. Either hubby & I don't agree or it's a name already taken by someone close to us. We do have a boy name picked out for the future - but I don't know what we'll do if we ever end up having more than one boy! ^_^

Well only God knows the answer to that one LOL

I tried to find out at the ultrasound (19 weeks) but they couldn't tell me, because they couldn't get a good view (if you know what I mean) so I guess for know it is a surprise, although going privately, with my own obstetrician, and he likes to do a few later on to determine the size of the baby, so around 34 weeks I should probably know. :D

For the meaning you are going for, I'd go with Samuel or Hannah. You will get to tell your child the story of answered prayer and a lifelong connection. Reading Samuel's life, one can see how often he would stop back in his hometown...

On the same reasoning, you could go with Elizabeth and John... or Sarah and Isaac

I'm jumping in a bit late, but I love the "el" names.... Most names with "El" (all of those with a with a Hebrew background) refer to the Lord. My fave is Ellis, a form of Elijah, which means the Lord is my God.

Depending on your tastes, I like Peter (Christ's disciple whom He calls a rock - hard headed but truly steadfast!), or John, His beloved friend. John means God is gracious. This will certainly be the middle name of our first son.

Less trad is a name like Javon (hard or soft J depending on where you live; I like soft) - means God will increase (form of Joseph).

Girls names, I love "M's" for some reason!!! Matana means graceful gift; Mary/Mara means wished for (but also bitter). Elizabeth (and all it's derivatives, of which there are many) means holy & sacred to God. Our daughter's name is Miranda, which means worthy of love. It also has a bunch of other meanings to us, with astronomical and literary connections which appeal to our loves as well.

My best baby name advice is to not talk about the names you love - by all means talk about the ones you don't care for, but I still haven't really gotten past my mother in law telling us (while still pregnant) that Miranda is the name of a soft drink (and wrinkling her nose at the same time! ). I tried to avoid talking names with others, only to be foiled again when I mentioned to a friend that I like "K" names for boys, only to have her say, "Oh, as long as it's not "K***" - I hate that name". I now no longer love that name, and I wish she'd never said it!!!

God bless!
