I have been having a conversation with someone on another board about salvation of babies. He asserts that babies can go to hell. Now would this be something in the old covenant and is changed in the new covenant, is this just completely obsurd or should I just say to heck with it, because if babies can be sent to hell then I don't think anyone has a chance.

I believe that God judges people on the basis of what they did in light of what they knew. Babies have not sinned or done wrong because they don't know the difference between right and wrong. Children do reach an age when they are old enough to be held responsible for what they do, and at that time, they will be judged by the same standards as others.

"Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger." Psalm 8:2

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth." Psalm 127:3-4

Make of that what you will.

Bottomline. The Lord reserves the right to decide the fate of everyone. It is extra biblical and speculation to delve into these issues. Best to just leave it with the Lord to decide.
Amen. The Lord is just. Whatever happens will be the right, fair and just thing. We have to leave it in His hands---and HIS hands alone.

This brings up another point.. what about those people that are severely disabled and can't comprehend right from wrong...
Don't worry, God is not capable of injustice or telling lies. He is the giver of life and knows how to judge with perfection that comes from being the very essence of true love. Imagine only the very best, far beyond man, of God.

I posted this in another forum with the same topic so I will share here.
Mark 10
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not:
for of such is the kingdom of God.

How much clearer does this really need to be.
Not only does this verse suffice to say that Gods Grace is for all, even though all will not accept it.

But more plainly it says HEY, Don't think that Children are not worthy....The KINGDOM of HEAVEN is THEIRS.

Little ones...are not exempt from Heaven just because they are too young to choose. He says it
BELONGS to THEM!

Babies cannot sin because they have no knowledge of right and wrong. When David's baby died he said, "But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me" (2 Sam. 12:23). David knew his child was in heaven and looked forward to being reunited with him.

Little children are special to God. In fact, Jesus used a little child to teach his disciples an important lesson about His kingdom (Matthew 18:1-4).

Babies, cannot sin. They don't have the knowledge of the law. However we are all sinners by nature at birth, Babies are covered under Gods Grace by discern of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

"What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful" (Romans 7:7-13).

God is Love above everything else. His word is a love story to you. The truest and most purest love that exists. Real Contentment. I really hope and pray you find that. Love, Mercy and Justice in that order is the best way for you to understand his message. God simply would not be Loving to send helpless children which he holds in high esteem to eternal Hell, nor would that show Mercy, and there is definatly no Just in that (however he can do this, it is by his right) His nature is defined completely opposite of this action ALL over the Bible. These verses just seem to make it clear.

Babies are not pure, they are not innocent. they are BORN IN SIN. don't forget, it is our SIN NATURE that sends us to hell, not our SINS (ie sinful works.) babies havnet committed sins yet - maybe; i know some pretty selfish 2 year olds - but they sure have been born in SIN.

if they are elect, the go to heaven. if the are not, they go to hell.
however, lutherans seem to have an interesting take on it; they seem to believe (if i am correct) that if a baby dies it is proof that is elect. i dont understand how that is biblically based, however.

age of accountability? is there really such a thing? hell is not based on deeds, it is based on our sin nature. period.

BUT. david said he would see his son again.

so i dunno.

Hi Lynn!
Ok yeah I am just finding out about this whole "Luteran" take on this whole thing and I DO not like it. Simple as that. I have no idea how God works in different people, in His way. But to tell someone that their child will go to hell because of not Baptizing them.....that is effectivly A.) Judging salvation - Clearly Gods Responsibility b.) effectivly saying that Baptisim saves C.) That Justification is not immediate

Now, I do not agree with the Calvin take on elect. Foreknowledge is doctrine but Predestination remains a mystery. It is not doctrine.

I believe that those earnestly seeking him for salvation will be saved. I believe that God Calls some but not others but my views on this have nothing to do with the Grace of Gods Salvation offered to everyone. If I am wrong, then I guess we all know where I will be.

Do not confuse works with choice here. Knowledge of right and wrong and making a choice to not willfully sin.

We know that God judges by our intent, correct? As you see in my earlier post - Gods Grace by discern of the thoughts and intents of the heart
Therefore Babies have no intent but remain innocent. However I have many other scriptures I could show you that describe how He wants us to be upon entrance to heaven actually a requirement, a requirement of spiritual growth, and a Model to be followed......all described by Childlikeness.

But lets not forget Jesus's last words to God regarding the ignorant, willfully sinful man.....
Luke 23
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

we might be born into sin but babys dont know right from wrong!!! i know some pretty mean little kids and at times you just want to scream at them! but most of the time when they at like that its because their parents dont care they just want them to be quite! and also some of those little kids dont grow up in a christian family so they dont even know about God. so yes little kids go to heaven.
