  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The age of the earth has never been a big issue for me. However, some recent conversations made me decide I should nail this thing down as best I can. So, my question is this:

For those familiar with the work of B.B. Warfield, specifically "On the Antiquity and Unity of the Human Race", what leads them to overturn his argument and continue with a YEC position?

I haven't read it and am not a YEC, so I'm doubly unable to respond to your question.

However, I will predict that few if any YEC's will have read it, but that some of them will argue for YEC here anyway.

P.S. What an early voice he was! He was a Biblical inerrantist, and a conservative, in the 1880's arguing that evolution poses no problems theologically for the Christian!

Don't think that I agree with everything he said. My question was targeted at his analysis of using Biblical genealogies to date the people of the Bible. As I suspected, it seems to be a very subjective process. FYI, the paper I mentioned is available online for those who are curious enough to read it.

Haven't read any of Warfields writings but I had a look on one creationist website and their response was are you going to believe the bible or evolution? So no attempt to address his exegesis or his example as a Christian scholar and one of the leaders of the Fundamentalist movement in dealing with scripture and science.
