Azumanga Daioh

As I've posted before, I'm a HUGE fan of AZUMANGA DAIOH, both the manga and the anime. I just picked up Vol. 4 of the anime series and it just gets better and better.

AZUMANGA DAIOH could most easily be described as "the JERRY SEINFIELD SHOW with Japanese school girls; about nothing yet about everything." It is a comedy of character and personality, and what is amazing about it is how everybody starts off as a cliched stereotype then very quickly grows and expands into complex, well-rounded characters.

And despite being about Japanese schoolgirls, it never veers into the realm of hentai or PORKY'S/AMERICAN PIE. The girls come across as very realistic, not cartoony male wish fulfilments. The content level never rises above PG.

(The title, BTW, is a pun on the creator's name, meaning "Azuma, the King of Manga.")

AZUMANGA DIAOH IS AWESOME!
Chiyo-chan is sooo cute!! And my friend acts just like the crazy one (if you seen the episode where they all go on holiday shes the one who throws chiyo-chans keys...she soo funny!)
My favs chiyo-chan though....aiya!!

That's Tomo. While all the characters are wonderful, I think the manga tends to favor Sakaki (the really cool girl who has bad luck with cats) and Chiyo-chan while the anime tends to favor Tomo and Osaka (the ditzy one).

Good show though it's been quite a while since I saw it. My favourite character was the tall girl who was fond of cats.
