• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I learned the other night at my Aspie group that everyone of us was born in a cold month. In another group 90% were born in cold months. I did a little research and found an article that said there is a 91% increase chance of being born with an ASD if you were conceived in winter. I have a hypothesis as to why this might be the case that has nothing to do causally with winter or cold weather, but right now I want to find out what the case is. So would everyone post their birth month and see what comes of it? Thanks.
BTW mine is February.

Just to mess with the OP,

  1. Are you going to screen for northern/southern hemisphere?
  2. If one is born in the winter, they were conceived in the spring. If they were conceived in the winter, they were born in the fall.
  3. You should set up a poll such as:

  • January in the northern hemisphere/July in the southern.
  • February.../August...
  • ...
  • December.../June...
  • I was born near the Equator...! ;)
BTW, I was born in March (in the northern hemisphere). It was southern California, not northern Wisconsin.

Mine is October. But isn't 'cold month' somewhat suggestive? Where I live, there are more cold months than hot ones.

If you were born in October, you were conceived in winter. Instead of "cold" perhaps I should have said "mid to late autumn or winter." I am not sure the phenomenon has to do with birth in cold months directly, or in conception time, or some thing else. I'd like to see what, if any, correlation exists. The statistical probability of one random group sample with all births in late fall or winter is small. Two such samples seems impossibly small. I have put the question on another Aspie web site called "Wrong Planet" and the preliminary responses are driving the probabilty toward zero rapidly.

Excellent points. I was not thinking clearly when I first posted. I was more interested in collecting data than sorting it. But your suggestions will aid in the sorting and clarifying.

I don't know how to do that sort of thing. Can you post a poll at the head of this thread? Or tell me how to do it? I wouldn't mind if we had to start over with you posting the thread starter. We haven't gone too far for that.
