At what age is your child concerned older? My 17 year old daughter exclaimed to me the other day that she was a big girl now and didn't want to be treated like a child.

I actually fell over laughing. All I could see was this little two year old sitting on the potty chair saying "look mommy I'm a big girl now" ^_^

I guess it's time to let her go and grow up, but dang, in my eyes she'll always be my baby.

That's a great story!

I am kind of the opposite. My son is 19 and I cannot for the life of me get him to stand on his own. I have prayed about this and I am not lead to boot him out into the world but my patience wears thin.

God has been at my side though thick and this with my boy. I have tried everything short of just kicking him out. The only thing I can do is continue to pray for guidance and hope the lord move him to begin taking responsibility for his life.

I always allowed my two boys to be as grown up as they wanted to be. I dind't buy them much stuff. I'd always had them help me with work around the house so they kind of naturally started to look for jobs to have the money they wanted to buy cars and go boarding etc.
If I'd provided everything for them growing up I don't know how I'd change them to wanting to do their own living!

18 is the legal age of "legal adult" in the United States.
Depending on what exactly she wants to do, you should let her do it.
AS your child turns 18 they have legal right to do mostly anything including all medical and legal decisions.

Most 17 year old are mature enough to go out and have a little bit of fun.

When they move out and pay their own bills they are 'all growed up'. Until then tell her she is a wannabe grownup.

You also have to take into account someones emotional state. You just can't tell a child that they are a wannabe grownup. I think she's had enough emotional abuse over the years without me adding more to it.

anyhow, she's 18 now. She's not out on her own yet, but I pray everyday that she gets the courage to leave soon. She needs to get away so that she can really start being a grownup. Staying where she's at right now is only hurting her and holding her back.

I disagree many people 18-21 ish go to college and stay home because they want to go to college. Loving parents should support this (being it is a lot cheaper staying home)

and it almost IMPOSSIBLE Full Time Student+ Full time Job.
We don't make $5x,xxxx+ :/

I think it's great that she did this! So give her adult responsibilities and see if she can handle them. Better she wants to be an adult than a child forever in your home when she should be an adult. I have seen that side of the issue, and i would not want to deal with that.
