• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is it okay for Christians to recognize Astrology? Was there any mention of the Zodiac in the Bible and was there ever a time when Gods people recognized and/or used it?

What about other Icons used in the Bible? For example, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John are compared to Man, Lion, Ox, and Eagle and if I'm not mistaken, I think this is the same group of creatures mentioned in the Vision of Ezekial. It was also used in Assyria ... the winged bull...

Bah! I need 100 posts to include an image ... here is a link, copy and paste for that I guess:

Body of a Lion, Feet of an Ox, Head of a Man, and Wings of an Eagle. Why are these pagan symbols used in Christian iconography? What is the significance?

It is God who created the heavens. Created the constellations. That Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have been compared to Man, Lion, Ox and Eagle is because those things are mentioned in Ezekial - not because of any pagan beliefs that developed.

Astrology as it is is probably nothing like what the wise men may have followed back in the time of Christ's birth. The ancient Babylonians were real adept at how the stars moved across the sky....but I doubt that they had this idea that a baby born in a certain month that _____characteristics. They developed a calender.

I do read the astrology section in the paper - gives me a laugh at times. :)

Astrology opens up an avenue for Satan to influence anyone who is interested in it.

Isaiah 47:12-14
12 "Keep on, then, with your magic spells
and with your many sorceries,
which you have labored at since childhood.
Perhaps you will succeed,
perhaps you will cause terror.

13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out!
Let your astrologers come forward,
those stargazers who make predictions month by month,
let them save you from what is coming upon you.

14 Surely they are like stubble;
the fire will burn them up.
They cannot even save themselves
from the power of the flame.
Here are no coals to warm anyone;
here is no fire to sit by.

To read your horoscope occasionally for fun is Ok. There is nothing wrong with that. But, those who live by it and practice it every day are practicing witchcraft and that is a cardinal sin. A cardinal sin is a sin that can cost you your salvation if you continue to do it.

I don't believe in astrology but uh, when does the Bible specifically say that?

Isaiah 47:12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. 13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. 14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

Astrology

Some people believe that Astrology is a science. Astrology is the supposed science of how the heavenly bodies (planets, stars, the sun, the moon and such) have effect upon our personal lives. Astrology began with the thought that the earth was the center of the solar system. It also began with only 5 planets, besides Earth. Only 5 of our planets are visible by the naked eye. The planets that were known were: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were discovered with the aid of telescopes in 1781, 1846 and 1930 respectively. Surely all the horoscopes done before 1930 should have been incorrect since the astrologers before that time were missing out on the influence of at least one planet in their calculations. Even today, only some of the astrologers use the three outer planets, others don't. Why didn't the inaccuracies in early horoscopes lead astrologers to deduce the presence of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto long before astronomers discovered them? According to 'noted' astrologer, Linda Goodman, a planet doesn't have any influence until it is discovered! Astronomers have long known of a phenomenon called 'precession of equinoxes,' by which the axis of the Earth rotates on itself, taking about 25,000 years to complete one rotation. The assignment of certain dates to certain signs of the zodiac (e.g. Aries from March 21 to April 19) was made about 2000 years ago and remains unchanged ever since. During these 2000 years, the axis of the Earth has rotated by about 30 degrees. This means that the correspondences between the 12 signs of the zodiac and their assigned dates are not correct any longer: there is a difference of almost one complete zodiac sign. So if you were born between March 21 and April 19, you are not really an Aries, but a Pisces. Even today, only a few astrologers take `precession' into account; most of them continue to cast horoscopes and make predictions for the wrong signs! What does the Bible say about Astrology?

Isa 47: NKJV
13 You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what shall come upon you.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame...
15 Thus shall they be to you With whom you have labored... No one shall save you.

Jer 10: MKJV
2 So says the LORD, Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be terrified at the signs of the heavens; for the nations are terrified at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain... The Bible teaches us that we have free will, our life is not the fate written by the planets. It is a sin to try to learn future information by any means other than by God. If you seek prophecy, look for prophecy from God. There is prophecy in the Bible Here's a story in the Bible about this kind of power:

Acts 16: MKJV
16 And as we went to prayer, it happened that a certain girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by divining.
17 The same followed Paul and us and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the Most High God, who are announcing to us the way of salvation.
18 And she did this many days. But being distressed, and turning to the demonic spirit, Paul said, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out in that hour. There are other psychic powers as well; astral projection, levitation, ESP, telepathy, telekinesis, and so on. All these originate from the same source. If it is a psychic power, then it is from the fallen soul or demons. Demons possess souls, God lives in the spirit of the believer. http://www.biblestudysite.com/astrol.htm Astrology, is it harmless fun or a gateway into the occult?

Astrology doesn't stand as a truth. It simply doesn't. A simple illustration would suffice:

I come from Hong Kong, where both Western and Chinese cultures are popular, yeah? So, from China itself we've got a set of our own astrologies (the Chinese zodiac; the twelve animals etc.). But from the West we've also imported your astrology, the twelve constellations whatever. Now, the Chinese astrology looks at the year of your birth and the Western one looks at the month of your birth, in other words, both astrologies can, and should, if astrology was a consistent truth, apply to a person at the same time. Then suppose the predictions of these astrologies clashed? Which one to believe? Which one is true and which isn't?

I'm sure the answer is simple. Neither is.
