What atonement theory does the Assemblies of God hold to -- Penal Substitution, Governmental, something else?
Our LORD Jesus Christ died as the substitute for our sin. Through His atonement we are set free from the guilt, penalty and power of sin

Thanks. I asked what the Assemblies of God believe. Do they hold to penal substitution?

I went to a AoG church here in Tennessee and the pastor seemed to miss the part on the power of sin. I talked to him about it and he thought I was bonkers, even when I showed him in scripture that we are now dead to sin...

I have never known AOG to believe in anything else than what the Bible clearly teaches on Christ being the substitute for our sin. The guilt and condemnation and power of sin is broken when we believe and receive that truth.

This was an individual case, but unfortunately the only AoG around here.
