The result of which can be a focused attention that often neglects peripheral matters, the desire to avoid situations (such as social) that can cause anxiety, and can result in developmental delays.

It's not in the diagnostic manual, so the term cannot be given as a diagnosis. But Asperger's is still a valid term. I would not considerate obsolete, as many still use it. It's no long diagnostic, but it is still descriptive.
