Theofilus said:That wasn't the worst part for me. I only had a problem with that once or twice. The part I hated was when they couldn't get a substitute teacher for another class and they asked me to watch over the kids (babysit) while they got to play on the computers.
Wow. It's funny you used the term "babysit" Theo because that is essentially what I do on a daily basis so teachers can get their "plan time."
I don't know what the reason is. Maybe it's that the parents do everything for them like you say. But, I have noticed that too. A lot of kids won't do anything unless everything is spelled out for them. They don't seem to be able to figure things out on their own and reading instructions seems to be entirely out of the question.
It is a rather odd phenomena and it's very frustrating as well as frightening to think of what things will be like for them when they get out on their own and can't function. I believe in helping people but this has gone beyond that. It's like enabling.
I think you're probably right about the effects of taking God out of the schools (and society in general). Fortunately, we don't have that problem here (yet). Although some people want to stop it, we still teach Bible stories in public schools right from the first grade. There is more of an emphasis on multiculture and teaching about other cultures and religions (mainly Islam for some reason) now though.

woman.at.the.well said:Do the employers in England require the MCSE certs like here in the states in order to get paid well?
If not, is having college degrees etc essential in acquiring work there?
woman.at.the.well said:By the way Theo . . .HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR THEO! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
MMXII said:Hey Theo, do you have big plans for your birthday? Are you going to take yourself out to dinner? Maybe a little Italian restaurant for a steak?
Theofilus said:I haven't really planned anything. What do old people usually do for their birthday?
Theofilus said:Yep, except it's Iceland and not England. But, like England, we have a state church which the government supports.
Most don't require it. In fact, when I mentioned that I had an MCP certification to some prospective employers about 8 years ago, they didn't even know what it was. The city doesn't require any certifiction for most things. A college degree is needed for some higher level jobs though.
Thank you
woman.at.the.well said:straigtening me out on where you are from! You know you're getting old when . . .you don't even remember country flags.
The U.S. has really pushed the need for degrees bigtime over the last 10-20 yrs. Gone are the days when someone can get a job because they have a desire to do a thing!
Do you pray for your country and leaders Theo?
MMXII said:I don't know, I'm not old yetI couldn't pass that one up.
Maybe get a hot dog and walk to "the" lake and feed the Icelandic ducks.
Theofilus said:I could do that. Or maybe I'll spoil myself and go to the Blue lagoon.
CoolMom4 said:So...how come a handsome, intelligent guy like yourself--who would be considered a great catch by most single women--hasn't gotten himself "caught" yet?
Aren't there any attractive, single women in Iceland?
Or did you date 'em all already?? (he,he!!)
