  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Your religion doesn't change your ancestry, so I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Are you asking whether Jews who become Christians are still considered "real" Jews?

Scripturally, the answer is yes. Peter, Paul, and the rest of the apostles certainly considered themselves Jewish.

Getting away from the New Testament, though, you'll find a lot of disagreement on the subject. Different branches of Judaism have very different ideas on who is Jewish and who isn't. There is a famous quotation from a rabbi who tried to solve the dilemma once by saying, "A Jew is anyone who says, 'I am a Jew.' " But for me, the New Testament answer is the real answer.

Actually, according to Jewish Law, the answers given are mostly false. If you have Jewish blood, then you definitely have Jewish ancestry, but it doesn't make you a Jew. You are a Jew if your mother's mother's mother's mother's mother (etc) was Jewish. That is the only way (unless you convert according to Jewish Law.) Also, if it does so happen that you are Jewish according to Jewish Law, then you are a Jew in every sense of the word and can become baal teshuva (repent and return to Torah-observant Judaism) and receive any rights as a Jew. As a Christian though (not trying to offend anyway, just telling you how it works), you would be considered a Jew who is an apostate and are not eligible for aliyah under the "Law of Return", nor could you get other Jewish rights such as being buried in a Jewish cemetary, for example. In otherwords, if your ancestry is as I said above, then you are a Jew, but if you are a practicing Christian (or a Messianic), then you are considered an apostate.....

G~d bless,
