The other day, while at work, I decided to eat my lunch beside a creek.  I just wanted to listen to the sound of the water.  I pulled my bus up beside the creek, opened the door a little bit but I could not hear the water like I thought I should be able to.  It was a pretty good size creek.  I shut off the bus engine but still could not hear it too well- there was so much other noise around me- cars, a train whistle, the wind...  I opened the door all the way and as I did that verse, "My sheep shall know my voice..." came to mind.  With the door open all the way I began to be able to hear the creek.  And, as I focused on listening to it, all the other sounds around me faded away.  Pretty soon the ONLY thing I heard was the sounds the creek made as it passed by.  I realized that this is how it is when God speaks to us.  How often we fail to hear His Voice because we don't open our ears and hearts fully to Him.  We allow the things that surround us to drown Him out.  BUT, when we draw close to Him, open our hearts, minds and ears, tune out the world around us and focus on His voice we can hear Him plainly.

Something that spoke to me in what you said was that you wanted to hear the creek. Of course, if you didn't really want to hear it, you wouldn't have opened the door and put your bus in an optimal place! But you positioned yourself for the best reception! Great!

I think about how often I've gone to a church service and left unchanged. Was it because the preacher was the fiscal equivalent of a mogadong sandwich, or was it that I didn't go to church actually wanting to hear something?

I do know that whenever I've gone with a desire to hear in my heart and an attitude of "what do you want to tell me today Lord?", He's never failed to do and say something wonderful.

Thanks for sharing!
