I've been watching it for years and still watch the re runs on UK Gold. I don't know if it's the same show as you guys watch, or if the American networks did their usual second rate job of copying an English idea.

Nope, here in Canada we get the real Are You Being Served, the one from Britian. It's on at least two channels, one of which is Canadian, and one, PBS, that's American. No cheap imitations:) Actually, PBS gets a lot of British programming. Kind of ruins the chances that cheap rip-off will occur, I think.

Like, I love this show! Have watched for many years. Also love are you being served again. I have the BBC channel and I watch it alot. PBS plays the summer of brandy wine, I thinkl it is called, keeping up apperance and waiting for God. I hope I got then right, I am very bad with titles.

Is the programme you mean called 'Last of the summer wine'? (The 3 old guys in the Yorkshie village, Nora Batty and all that)

If it is then you might be interested to know that I've had a cup of tea in Ivy's cafe, A few (well quite a lot actually) years ago I took a party of pensioners on a day trip to the Yorkshire village where the series is filmed. It was quite good walking past the pub, and Nora batty's house and going in the Cafe.

I agree with you about Hyasinth too. That is a funny show. There is another good show which would go down well in America and it's called Heartbeat. That is also filme in Yorkshire, in the village of Goathland. Been there as well.

Have they sent you 'Only fools and horses' yet ?

I used to watch Are You Being Served as well. Mrs. Slokum (sp?) was my favorite character on there.

Keeping Up Appearances was a nother good one I watched. I always got a chuckle out of Hyacinth running away from her relatives and acting so rich. Also the young neighbor of hers, whose name I've forgotten, was hilarious because he was running from her tea parties she always invited him to :D .

If not for 'Are you being served?', 'Keeping up appearances', 'last of the summer wine' and those two about the mall workers and the church lady, I would say that PBS is a complete waste of time and donations and should be shut down.

What's that one with that woman from James Bond movies and the man who looks like Rupert Murdoch and the 'You must remember this' theme song? I hate that show so much!

Yes, that is the show. I love that show. Compo is my fav on the show. I love how noisy Hyasith is, poor Richard. No I have not seem Heartbeat or Only fools and horses. If you can help me, there is a show that has four guys who live in a run down flat. One of the is named vivian. What is the name? I catch it on the BBC-America sometimes. Are the any American show shown over there that you like? Thanks Gov!!!;)

The one you are thinking of is called the Young Ones. I agree, totally brilliant. The theme tune is Cliff Richards song ' The Young Ones'. The four guys are Rick, Vivian, Mike and Niel. Niel is a hippy and is played by Nigal Planer, Vyvyan, the punk, is played by Adrian Edmondson, Anarchist and 'peoples poet' Rick is Rik Mayall, and Peter Richardson plays Mike, the 'normal' one.

As for American comedy shows, I like MASH (Hmmmm...Hot Lips), I was raised on Happy Days (Haaaaaaay) and we still get that occasionally, TAXI used to be good but we don't get that at the moment, I watch Malcolm In the Middle with the kids, and we are major Simpsons fans.

I love some of the British sitcoms like AYBS and Keeping Up Appearances, and I also love British mysteries-Midsomer Murders, Hetty Winthrop(although I haven't seen much of it yet), Agatha Christie screen adaptations, and that new one...um...Inspector Lynley. And Rosmary and Thyme is good for a relaxing, mysterious time.

In that case, try 'A Touch of Frost' if it gets shown over there. Best of the lot. And lookout for a sitcom called 'My Family' starring Robrt 'Jesus Christ' Lindsay, and Zoe (Madame Hooch - Harry Potter) Wannamaker. Hilarious.

I've seen Touch, but never actually watched it...I'll to try it sometime! I just discovered My Family...my mom has been watching it for a while, and finally convinced to watch it too!

Here in North America, we are lacking in good sitcoms these days. There are a few, but not too many anymore.

I think BBC America show a lot of the BBC comedies. My personally favourite is Blackadder, some of the writing is just cemedic perfection itself! Amazon are actually doing a good deal on the DVD boxset (although the American edition is far better than the British one).
