I want to stand up and be counted as well.
I have never let me 11 year old daughter read the books or watch the movies.
We have talked about it, and she understands the reasoning behind it. And she is fine with it!
So you moms out there who have done the same thing, you are not alone! There are plenty of us out there protecting our children from the alure of such wickedness!
Thanks Happy!
Before I read the Bible I will admit that I let my oldest son read a Harry Potter book and that I let him go to the first two movies.
In Colorado it was a phenomenon, seriously. Kids were crazy for that stuff and my son's school started selling magic kits from a place called Magic University. I even let him get some of that stuff.....which, by the way, sold a pair of glasses that you could put on and supposedly see the spirits of the dead walking around and a headset that would help you "hear" the dead.
However, after reading the Bible I came to the conclusion that it was not something that I could allow him to do anymore.
When he turns 18 he may decide that is what he wants, but until then I am his mother and I will protect him from anything I see as unChristian.
I watched Brokeback Mountain as a Christian and as an adult. I knew what it was about before I did...and even though I knew it was fiction there really was a point where I felt sympathy for the two characters in that movie.
WHY? They were doing something God considers absolutely immoral.
I said something about that movie on a different message board and oh my goodness, you would've thought I was attacking Heath Ledger (may he rest in peace) and Jake Gyllenhaal themselves! I have never seen people jump in to defend two fictional CHARACTERS the way some of the people there did.
Even though it was fiction, it does not change the fact that two men had a passionate REAL kiss. The passion may not have been real, but the kiss sure was.
It condoned homosexuality even if it did show the troubles someone back then would have to face. We all know it isn't nearly that bad for them anymore.
It's being accepted, more and more...but that doesn't make it right. Maybe people are just finally figuring out that we can't judge, only God can.
