  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you a discriminating person?

Just for my understanding: Are you talking about discrimination as in "distinguishing between things", or as in "disadvantaging or degrading certain social groups"?
It seems to me there is a substantial difference between those two meanings.

I imply the classical meaning not the contemporary meaning.
I am called to discriminate against all other Gods but the God of the bible.
I am called to discriminate against all other women but my wife.
I am called to discriminate against all that is contrary to God's nature,
for example, taking in the name of giving.

Then I don't get the debate. Of course you treat other gods differently than your won, and other women differently than your own wife.
But if you say you disriminate against them it sounds to me like you actively disadvantage women (over the rest of the population, i.e. men), and followers of other Gods. Because usually that is what people mean when they say "discriminate" - at least in a social context.

I have found myself guilty of discrimination in the usual sense. Whenever this occurs I do my best to correct it. I can only attribute it to culture. it's part of the judging thing and Iive come a long way but I must admit I have a ways to go.
