No. Some traditions are absolutely necessary. Without them we have endless debates that often are impossible to settle. Look at all the Protestants who say they have no traditions and argue and split incessantly. My opinion is that they are actually tradition bound but cannot face up to the fact that they even have traditions. I'm happy to have traditions, to know I have traditions, and to be able to scrutinize them. I don't reject them out of hand, and I am free to retain all the good ones. Like the apostle Paul advised in 2 Thess 2:15.Tradition only causes debate, and its totally unnecessary.
The Lords words ministers to me daily, but i have lost faith in preachers/teachers. Look at all the incessant debate on these forums, some of which is about traditions. Why should i want that?I'm trying to imagine what life must be like without traditions. How long are the sermons at your church on Sundays?

But do you think to follow traditions just for tradition's sake is helpful?I find living in questions gives me a broader reach than when I sought a single conclusion, but each question and even living in questions consists of traditions in and of themselves. Recognizing our own patterns is important, a good skill for sanctification.
To say you have no tradition means you do not eat or go to the bathroom, everyone has consistent patterns, and recognizing these is helpful if you want to be transformed from the foundation up.
Hi Family,
As I look to the different denominations I see some riddled with traditions that some individuals find necessary to bless or to appease God.
Do we need these traditions?
Are we naive or small minded to place value on traditions?
Do traditions save you?
Are they necessary?
Why do traditions that are contradictory to the Word even allowed to continue?

Sometimes. Like the tradition of stopping for a red light. That one keeps me out of lots of trouble. Or driving on the right side of the road. But do you think to follow traditions just for tradition's sake is helpful?

Word of mouth tradition = broken telephoneDo you follow 2 Thess 2: 15?
So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter.
And yet Paul wrote it in something which the Church canonized as Scripture that word of mouth teaching could be valid. And more to the point that Traditions were things we should hold to as matters of the faith.Word of mouth tradition = broken telephone
Ouchh! A knife in the gut! How would that be relevant agin'?Said the guy who doesnt believe in following written commands unless written by the government.
Nope. Why would you assume? Is the topic of this thread about making assumptions about W2L?
Sorry but im having a hard time understanding your position. You dont agree with the Lords commands but do agree with tradition?Ouchh! A knife in the gut!
Visit 3 of the same denominations and the variations in the three churches will be greater than you can imagine. But visit more and the local variations all smooth out.
