but this was just a statement of fact.
Not sure Michael. But I always prefer the gospel narratives to Hollywood. Happy New YearHey guys, I looked at this movie for the first time over the w/e and it simply horrified me. Just checking to see if Mel Gibson used accurate info from the bible for everything in there?
Worse than that? How could Jesus have been tortured any worse than what was shown in that movie?
Also that led me to thinking that the Jewish sages were blamed for the crucifixion and rightly so but since it was the Romans who done it, why would they be exempt from blame and why would Rome in particular be the center of Christianity?
Great info guys, thanks! The above statement I have heard before but can't recall seeing it in either the OT or NT, can you or anyone link me to that please?
Being crucified in real life would be worse. Most likely Jesus carried the cross naked and was most certainly naked on the cross. Your clothes would be stripped of you to humiliate you, your enemies would come up to you and spit in your face. Once on the cross you would slowly die of asphyxiation. That means your bodily functions would go, urinate and defecate in yourself while dying with onlookers. This is not including tortures and assaults.
Not even close.Hey guys, I looked at this movie for the first time over the w/e and it simply horrified me. Just checking to see if Mel Gibson used accurate info from the bible for everything in there?
It's noteworthy some early Christians believed that Pilate ended up being a repentant sinner and converted to Christianity, a story that was reported by Tertullian around the third century. According to the stories, Pilate died as a martyr. In fact he has a feast day in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. But the truth of the stories may be down to pious frauds, and Tertullian may have had the motivation of trying to ingratiate the Roman state.
But it's not hard to understand why those stories were popular. Stories of radical conversion are wildly popular among Christians, such as Saul of Tarsus, all the way up to the present day.
