I find it sad, but oddly funny, that some would think its blasphemy to deny the stigmata episodes as being some mark of holiness, or even consider them to be the work of the enemy when there is no Scriptural case for anything like it.Hello Mont,
I'm not sure that I saw anyone say anything about it being blasphemy to deny a stigmata. If you are referring to what I have said about blaspheme, I explain a little better.
Simonthezealot made a statment that the stigamata were given by Satan. I reminded him that Jesus said that attributing something from God as being from Satan would be blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. I personally don't know if any of the stigmata are from God or not but I certainly would not say they were from Satan without proof positive.
Some point to this as an example:Is there a biblical example of God bringing illness or injury to a godly person?
Galatians 6:17
From now on, let no one make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body.
I personally believe that he is referring to all the marks that he received from his many beatings.
Paul also says this:
2 Corinthians 12:
6 Although if I should wish to boast, I would not be foolish, for I would be telling the truth. But I refrain, so that no one may think more of me than what he sees in me or hears from me
7 because of the abundance of the revelations. Therefore, that I might not become too elated, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.
8 Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me,
9 but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.
Exactly what the thorn in the flesh was, no one knows, but God wanted to keep Paul humble.
In the OT, God allowed Satan to test Job. The 1st line says:
Job 1:1
In the land of Uz there was a blameless and upright man named Job, who feared God and avoided evil.
Satan was allowed to strip Job of all he had. He killed Job's family but when Job still didn't blaspheme God Satan was allowed to harm Job physically but he couldn't kill him.
Job 2:7
So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with severe boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Does any of this prove stigmata? I don't think so.
If there is proof of stigmata, it is not in scripture but in the lives of those that experience them.
God Bless,
Yarddog
OK, no biblical basis for stigmata.
You know, I know many people who godly and righteous people who suffer from all sorts of ailments....we don't go about claiming they are anything special. Not even those who got extremely ill as a result of serving Christ.
Mines electric and only works on small trees. Craftman i think.I have an 18" poulan. Small enough to work with but big enough to do what I need it to.
I was going to run the link through the wayback machine, but the article has been changed and the link isn't there any more.Oh, I missed that. But I can't read more about it either...the footnote is a broken link.
According to Rita Marley, Rastafarian Haile Selassie was a stigmata.

Do you consider Paul Catholic? This is not a thread to supposedly "debunk" Catholic cases of the Stigmata (although we all know it will lead to that)
But, does anyone know of any non-Catholic cases of the Stigmata? I would love to read about it!!
The stigmata was one of the purposes she thought as much.Bob Marley's wife, I see. And she said she thought this Rastafarian fellow was a divine being too.... Hmmmmmmm....
This does not mean Paul literally had the scars of crucifixion. Rather, it indicates that Paul's body was scarred due to his commitment to follow Christ.7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure .
thorn =
- a pointed piece of wood, a pale, a stake
- a sharp stake, splinter
17 From henceforth let no man trouble me : for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. Galatians 6:17
Marks = stigmata a mark pricked in or branded upon the body. To ancient oriental usage, slaves and soldiers bore the name or the stamp of their master or commander branded or pricked (cut) into their bodies to indicate what master or general they belonged to, and there were even some devotee's who stamped themselves in this way with the token of their gods
This does not mean Paul literally had the scars of crucifixion. Rather, it indicates that Paul's body was scarred due to his commitment to follow Christ.
Jesus suffered the wounds that we wouldn't, these fakes make a mockery of Christ and His word.
Isa 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
I saw a show also about a Protestant woman who had the stigmata. They actually showed it. She was bleeding in her hands, but not profusely.I have seen on unsolved mysteries in the 80's a Orthodox Christian women bear the marks of stigmata. I have heard about one Lutheran who also did. But I do not know more about them. I think it is a Catholic gift primarily but some others may seem to have it authentically as we know St. Paul also did.
