Hi all,
To any Maronites, or those who know the inner workings of the Syriac Maronite Church: Is today the commemoration of HH St. Cyril, Patriarch of Alexandria in the Maronite tradition?
Just curious, since I saw on Facebook via the group "Syriac Solidarity Council" (pan-Syriac organization in Lebanon) that today is apparently the commemoration of HH St. Cyril, Patriarch of Alexandria. It was accompanied with what was definitely a West Syriac icon (you can tell by the Serto script on it, which is the form of the Syriac writing that is unique to the West Syriac, i.e., Syriac Orthodox, Maronites, some Indian Syrians). I'm not sure the rules about reproducing content from a closed group on FB (or at least I think they're a closed group; I don't remember how I got invited there, since I'm obviously not Syriac or Lebanese), and anyway all the info was in Arabic, but you could tell from the icon that it had the same sort of 'Neo-Byzantine' look that modern OO icons tend to have, so at first I thought it was Syriac Orthodox. But I just looked at their calendar and today is the commemoration of the Sts. Peter and Paul, not of HH St. Cyril.
I can't find a Maronite calendar, but my other guess is that it is possibly Maronite, given the location of the group and the religious demographics of Lebanon. So I'm just wondering if that's correct. I'd also love to see any Qurbono that you guys celebrate today, if HH is commemorated liturgically. Thank you.
