• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are there any free programs for idiots....

lithium.

1. right click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, and goto properties, then when the box comes up goto Connections, then LAN Settings, Then Proxy settings. then enter the ip of the proxy and the port and ok everything.

seesaw, he can't enter the address of a proxy server if he isn't actually connected to one.

If you want to hide your IP address, the best thing you can do is find a free one, or buy a firewall. It doesn't *really* hide your address, but it helps prevents people attacking your computer through TCP and UDP ports.

Other than that, your best bet would be to do a search on say www.google.com for 'IP mask' (without quotes) and have a look at sites which look like they belong to respectable organisations. See what they have to offer.

Yeah A firewall stealths ports so that they dont respond to an open or closed request.

Theres 65000 or so "ports", or connections that can be opened to the internet, each one is numbered. For example, http is usually send over port 80.

Normally, if requested, a computer will respond "yes this port is open" if the port is in use or "no this port is closed" if the port is not in use. However, in the act of responding "closed" or "open" to a request, it gives away your computer's existance at that ip adress. This allows hackers to attempt to exploit your computer.

A firewall with port stealthing will make your computer ignore the request if a port is closed. So if a closed port was queried there would be no reponse at all. A good firewall (usually)will not cuase problems with programs if configured correctly.

Usually hackers attempt to find target by "port scanning". Port scanning is usually just a port status request sent out to a lot of ip adresses randomly or in order. The computers that respond in a way that usually signals vulnerability are logged for future exploit testing. A firewall will not respond to the request if your port is closed(likely), so the scanner will just pass up your adress thinking a computer isn't there.

Are you trying to hide from someone?
It doesn't seem right to me, most places that record IP's ask you to make an agreement that you are using your actual IP and not trying to hide under an anynomous name.
Seems awfully dishonest and deceitful. JMHO

I'm not doing ANYTHING.

My computer has been hacked into, which I use for my small business, and tax information, credit card stuff, has all been stolen, because someone was given access to my IP address on another board.....

I just don't want anymore problems.... that's ALL!
