No.

Where did you get this from? I haven't heard anything to suggest that.

Most Baptist churches are registered to conduct marriages, and do so. Unlike the C of E, Baptist churches have no legal duty to marry anyone. But BUGB urges (member) churches not to conduct same sex marriages, however, it is up to individual churches to decide what they do.

For the benefit of our American friends, I assume you mean The Baptist Union of Great Britain (BUGB), which is the main and largest Baptist denomination in England & Wales.

They are the baptist group in the UK. OP, can you please provide any reputable news articles to what you're claiming? I googled and couldn't find anything.

The BU (Baptist Union - or more fully, Baptist Union of Great Britain) is by far the largest Baptist denomination in the UK, and most Baptist churches in England and Wales are members. Despite the name, Scotland and NI have their own associations. The BU is organised in smaller associations, e.g. SCBA (Southern Counties Baptist Association).

The BU represents and supports local churches which are self governing, but it does not any control or have authority over local churches. Many members may not be very aware of the BU or the role that it plays.
