  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have found lately that many large budget films are hyped with multiple trailers, sneak peeks, cast interviews, behind the scene looks at filming, and plot summaries. To me, it kind of spoils the surprise of events in a film when you have so much revealed early on.

I can remember in my college days, when I worked at a movie theatre, there were many films that I knew little about, but had the joy of experiencing without all of the hype and info. It was usually just a short trailer or poster that got me intrigued to watch.

Anybody else have these same feelings?

I do think a lot of movie trailers give too much away. Some of them actually contain spoilers, which I don't understand at all lol.

That's why, when I'm looking forward to a movie, I basically let myself watch the first teaser trailer and then I actively avoid everything else.

So yeah, I definitely agree with you. I guess it's just so easy to access all of this information today that things like that are hard to keep under wraps. I do think they should stop releasing actual scenes from movies. And they should stop releasing so many trailers.

Too many movies these days rely on too much action, multi-million dollar CGI, and popular faces to sell their movies.

There is nothing original in Hollywood anymore and now we must suffer dozens upon dozens of remakes of a decidedly lesser quality than the originals.

Hollywood is saturating the film industry with these. These movies feel like the products of a mass-production line... rather then someone's or some individual's beloved creative genius and a personal desire and drive to translate their stories onto celluloid.

Movies seem unoriginal today because they go with what sells the best. Original formulas and storylines are untried. :)

I love original movies!
I get really tired of the same thing happening over and over again so I don't like most movies these days. I actually did see an interesting movie recently though. It's called "Her." Very well done.

A funny video of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" given a typically over-hyped modern trailer:

I'm tired of 3D, they limit the 2D time so you have no choice but to spend the extra $3. Awesome glasses or not I don't want to see everything in 3D! :sorry:
Actually I prefer to watch the 2D version because I wear glasses. It's uncomfortable to try to use 3D glasses with my own and it's often hard to follow motion on the screen in 3D.

I honestly have not seen a 3D movie yet that added anything substantial to the experience. They all still look like unnatural "layers" to me--like old school ViewMaster toys-- rather than natural 3D.

It's not like the advance from silent movies to talkies or from black and white to color. 3D just doesn't add much.

That would be uncomfortable. :/

What do you mean by "they limit the 2D" if you don't mind me asking? :)

I don't mind :)

The last time I watched a movie in 3D the only show time they had for the same movie in 2D was 4:00. We weren't able to make it that early, but the same movie in 3D had multiple showings that evening. It happens a lot here.

I think that they gear the 3D for cheap thrills instead of using it to make the graphics look more impressive. :)

Over-hype seems to be a rule of thumb, especially for block-buster comic book type movies. These seem to be considered budget busters unless they beat earnings expectations, similar to company quarterly earnings beating Wall Street expectations.
