I tried to tell them that not all Baptist churches are the same. That's why there are so many, because you need to choose the one that fits you best. They say that all the baptist churches around them are all traditional and boring. I cant tell them to move, but same here, if they went to my church they wouldn't think for a second that we're boring.

I've had many people tell me that the reason that they do not convert to being a Baptist is because they are scared that at the services they will be bored to death. How do you conquer that fear?

I'm sure there are churches in every denomination that are boring to people. Sounds like they haven't been in a Baptist church though? Invite them.
Some might think cause Baptists don't go around babbling, falling all over the place or running around during service that it will be boring.
My church is exciting, hearing the Word of God preached, learning about Him, members using their spiritual gifts for the body, and worshipping the Lord is wonderful.

Boring? No not really. My Baptist church at home isn't boring. As earlier said people aren't dancing.. etc.. running around at my church either. But it is still a more interesting service then some other denominations that I have been to. Definantly not saying that other denominations are boring. Just saying that the Baptist churches I have been 2 have not been boring.

"falling all over the place or running around during"

My church is Southern Baptist and this sure sounds like mine!!!
We have a BLAST!!! Who said Church can't be FUN??
www.crossroadsnewnan.org Ya'll come now

A SBC like that?? That's a shame. :sigh: I don't think chaos is supposed to be involved during church. I don't see how that is biblical. I hope you are being fed and equipped. Really, I do.

Like I said before you don't need theatrics to have fun or enjoy church. And so far seems like Baptists have been pretty good at staying away from that kind of thing cause they preach and teach and live by the Word... most of the time.

I think that many would find my idea of the "perfect" church service to be very boring. . .lots of old hymns from the hymnal (Isaac Watts, Augustus Toplady, the Psalms, etc), Bible reading, an hour long SERMON packed with theology and teaching, and then a second service in the evening to learn and grow more and lots of fellowship before and after services! Not a lot of instruments, lot a lot of "pop culture additives," just the plain and simple Word preached.

Those are my personal tastes! Maybe I am just an "old fashioned girl," but that's how I like things!

Well the good news is I finally got the true story as to why he is so scared. Not really because of the boredom (that's only part,) but because the church that he went to as a kid was more adult based than anything else. He said there were like 200 old people for every child to the church and they had no real Sunday School, for anybody. They had no fellowship on any other day than Sunday, they never went anywhere, (except for the Seniors Bus Trip every year) and ther was no real outreach program.

Before you ask I already told him that to me that didn't really sound like any Baptist church I'd ever heard of, and that not all (not NEAR all) churches are that.... uh.... old.

 You'll be happy to know that he is now actively seeking a church in his area, so if anyone lives near Sioux Falls tell me please.

I have a brother-in-law who is a former Baptist and is currently a Pentecostal. He told me that the Baptist services bored him to sleep practically. I guess for some people it is boring but what is more important? Truth in doctrine or an exciting service?

For me i do not seem bored or if things go long. But i am young and i love God so. The only time i have come bored with service is when i am sick with a cold. My church service last for a 1hr 45mins longer if my pastor has a important message for us. We do have allot of fellowship and it helps. I bring my bible to church so when i am tired of signing i just read. We sign 6 song in a row at the begining God is not boring he like us to worship free will with in the bibical veiw

Cool, my Lutheran Brethren congregation is just a little over 500 miles away! Certainly worth the drive on Sundays. Just joking, I was reading this thread because other Lutherans accuse us of having services the same as Baptists, so I was wondering what the guy found so boring.
