Hello, my name is Freyr, you can call me whatever suits you, but i'd like to point out that atheists are just as moral as any other people. Because true morality comes from loving the fellow man, not from fear of devine retribution.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I agree with one nit-pick.
Atheists can be as moral as anybody else not are as default. Just like every other human on the planet, they get to decide if they will act morally or not.

Agreed.
In fact, if a person is only good because they are scared God will punish them, then I think they are not so moral after all.
So, a question to anyone who disagrees with me... If you suddenly became convinced that there was no God, what would stop you from becoming a thief, criminal, etc?

Exactly. So, it would be more correct to say that followers of God are called to do those things.

In all honesty, most people I've known whose faith was based around fear of divine retribution can be some of the biggest jerks on the planet. I don't consider them moral at all. They were jerks prior to accepting Christ, of course, but they never had that heart-changing experience. Instead they use the Bible as their shield and their faith as their scapegoat.

African americans are one of the most religious and criminal, so clearly religion does not always correlate with morality.
