The biggest change here is that the Suggestion/Complaint Box will no longer be used for appealing staff decisions. Members should use the feedback button to appeal staff decisions.
Members will have an option to designate their appeals as private, which will create an appeal that is accessible to senior staff alone. The standard appeal option will create an appeal that is accessible to all staff.
Preface:
This protocol is intended to give members the opportunity to request relief concerning staff disciplinary action; to provide a venue for reconciliation between members and staff; and to ensure equitable enforcement of rules and protocols.
All appeals must be initiated by the recipient of the staff action. Appeals that are filed on another member's behalf will be closed without review.
Appellants have the option to designate their appeal as private, which will be accessible only to senior staff (Administrators and above). At their discretion, senior staff may re-designate an appeal as private, in the event the appeal contains confidential or private information. Unless the appeal is otherwise designated as private, all staff have access to view and post in appeal threads.
All other CF rules continue to apply in appeal threads, and violations of those rules may result in further disciplinary action.
I. Appeals to the Administrators
All staff actions, including, but not limited to, post deletions, thread closures, warnings, infractions, and bans may be appealed to the administrators.
1.1. Members may initiate an appeal by clicking the feedback button located under the issuing staff member's title and to the left of their avatar.
1.2. The issuing staff member's team administrator(s) will hear the appeal. If the staff member's team administrator(s) took part in the initial staff action by providing guidance, direction, or advice to staff, a substitute administrator may be chosen to hear the appeal. If an administrator is the issuing staff member, the appeal will be escalated directly to the Reconciliation Team.
1.3. A successful appeal will result in a reversal of the staff action being appealed.
1.4. Appeals to the administrators should be decided within 7 days of the appeal's commencement.
II. Appeals to the Reconciliation Team
If a member's initial appeal is denied, the member may subsequently file appeal to the Reconciliation Team. Only warnings, infractions, and bans are appealable to the Reconciliation Team as of right. Members may request an appeal of additional staff actions, and at their discretion, the Reconciliation Team may grant the member's request.
2.1. To appeal an administrator's decision, click the feedback button located under the reviewing administrator's title and to the left of their avatar.
2.2. A panel of three Reconciliation Team members will hear the appeal.
2.3. A successful appeal will result in a reversal of the staff action being appealed.
2.4. The Reconciliation Team's decisions are final as concerns staff appeals.
2.5 Appeals to the Reconciliation Team should be decided within 14 days of the commencement of the appeal.
III. Staff Reviews
Members may request a review of what they perceive to be staff impropriety, including, but not limited to, protocol and/or rule violations.
3.1. To initiate a staff review, contact the staff member's superior(s) via PM. The feedback button should not be used to initiate staff reviews.
Concerns with a moderator should be taken to the team administrator(s), prior to escalating the issue to the Reconciliation Team. Concerns with an administrator should be taken directly to the Reconciliation Team. Concerns with a member of the Reconciliation Team or a Superadministrator should be taken to the CEO's Advisors.
3.2. The results of staff reviews will remain private to the staff member and his/her superiors.
IV. Administrative Matters
4.1. Appeal threads will be moderated by those assigned to hear the appeal.
4.2. The staff member being appealed should provide links to any relevant reports, staff discussions, and the contents of any PMs between the appellant and staff. A short explanation or clarification as to staff's decision may also be provided; however, staff should not argue with the appellant or those hearing the appeal. If staff have any concerns, grievances, or reservations about the decision of an appeal, such should be taken to PM.
4.3. The team's administrators may determine whether they will hear appeals independently or in conjunction with their co-administrator(s).
