• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does anyone out there have RA,OA, and fibro? I was dx in June of 2005 and am going through the experimentation of what meds will work.

The pain and stiffness are constant and sleeping is a problem. Makes it difficult to function at times.

Would like to know what others do to help relieve their symptoms.

Affects my eys too but the good thing is I can still read my bible. And of course, my mouth works so I still can pray out loud!!!

Love to hear from anyone with this or anything like it.

Tapero thanks for the words of encouragement. I could not deal with this at all if it weren't for faith and trust in God. I know have a great support group in my family but I know that He is my greatest supporter and the Healer.

I am going through some tough times myself right now. I have problems Arthritis, not sure what type at this moment. I am 27, My body doesnt deal well with minor injuries such as a muscle pull, I bent down the other day and in my lower hip something poped, still in pain, I am allergic to certian types of pain med. like Naproxen, tramadol, and others like that. Also probably am allergic to latex. I feel like my body is fighting itself all the time. I have a chronic rash on my face neck shoulder, from all alergic reactions. I think I must be allergic to a lot of stuff. My doctor keeps saying test turn out normal and x rays, but I don't know whats going on ! I am sorry for loading all of this on you all, I don't know why I guess its concern, oh I have trouble with sleeping too deena, my Doctor has put me on trazadone to help me sleep. Hang in there, You are not alone

Kelly, messed up sleep patterns are one of my symptoms and go hand in hand with the fibro part of my issues. Getting decent rest is very important. It has been especially hard the last few days. For me, changes in weather (pressure) are painful and disruptive.

As to the hip, that's where my problems started that got me to seek a doctor out. My SI joints get inflamed and moving wrong makes it feel like mt hip is going out from under me and I get unstable at times. Muscle relaxants etc don't work because it's actual inflamation of the joints.

If heat doesn't help try ice packs.

I take tylenol PM when needed, most sleeping pills don't help unless the inflamation gets under control.

I take enbrel injections every 72-96 hours plus additional meds for inflamation.

My disease is causing my si joints and spine to fuse but enbrel is pretty effective for me. Unfortunately it may take decades for enough skeletal changes to occur to show up on x-ray and most doctors don't know what they are looking for. Average time for proper diagnosis is 10 years.

Have they done bone scans? HLA-B27 blood test?

I pray you all get rest and healing and your doctors work with His wisdom, grace, and mercy.

Mont, I have a similar thing. I have arthritis in my hips and SI joints (and various other places). My hips click sometimes and feel like they are going to pop out, particularly when going down stairs. Getting to sleep was really difficult, it was causing a lot of problems for me. To cut a long story short I started using Endep which is actually a antidepressant, it helps me get to sleep but I dont feel groggy in the morning which I do with any sleeping tablet. I really hate taking medication and this is really great, only have to take one little tablet and keeps me going for 24 hours.

Ouch! weather affects me too, but now we are moving into Spring I am feeling much better. I think my husband would like it if my jaw was affected, stop me from talking so much . My ribs are affected to, but only mildly, it has to be a really busy day and then going to sleep at night is almost impossible. People just dont understand when that it hurts just to take a breath. Have fun painting the house and look after yourself!

.

Hi Deena, I just thought of something else. When my pain is really bad and I cannot get to sleep, I have listen to Audio Books. I down load them on to my iPod and put the volume on low so as not to bother my husband and it distracts me enough to go to sleep. I don't take strong medication at night because in me it tends to wake me up, or give me really bizarre dreams and I dont feel refreshed in the morning. I had tried relaxation tapes before but for me, it just made me focus on the areas that were in pain. I also listen to poetry, and also try to recite poetry as well. It relaxes me and I focus on something else. I do that when I am stressed as well. The other day I was having a scope done and my heart rate was up and even though they were pumping drugs into me I still was not going to sleep, so I started reciting "The Raven" I remember getting to the 2nd verse but the doctor said that I got thru about 5 verses before I went out to it.

Anyway, that's just what works for me.

There's a woman with lupus that came up with the "spoon theory". Do a google for it. It fits me pretty well.

I just need to do some touch up painting and the kitchen, entryway, diningroom, hall, and living room are done. Just need to finish the floor, baseboard/trim, and new blinds.

Then time off before painting the two bedrooms, 1 and 1/2 baths on the mainfloor, then off to finish the basement. (already finished two bedrooms and a store room in the basement last year)

I am also affected by the weather, my fibro was profoundly worsened in late 04, and I could quite literally feel katrina as it passed through florida last year (I live just nort hof atlanta GA)
I knew then it would be bad, but since my increased pain levels are almost at the point of being like a new disease, I am still getting "used to it"

I hope you find something that works. I have RA and when i'm going through a tough period (with me it's cyclic), I find sleeping very difficult.
I get a mattress that's very soft, so much so it doesn't put any pressure on the joints. Cortisone injections have done wonders for me. I'm lucky to have a very strong stomach and so naproxene is also good. When the weather's hot, i'll try anything to relieve the pain: wet towels on joints, fans next to the bed, hot/cold sprays...

I know that this post was done a while ago but I know quite a few ppl who have recieved an amazing amount of relief..some feel 100% by going on the Isagenix program. I just though I'd mention that. If you want to learn more about it...you can go to www.wahm.com/forums and go to A Total Body Cleanse folder. Alot of ppl have testimonies there.

Or I can try to gather some info through email about it. Let me know if you would like me to. I just mention this because of the difference in my life and so many others.

I just wanted to see how you were doing since you made this post. I know a good amount of ppl with fibro and other issues who use the program called Isagenix. Not only have ppl found relief, but feel 100% better. If you want to find some testimonies, you can go to the forums at www.wahm.com or I can gather some info for you and email to you.

You can sign up to get the products wholesale if you are interested in trying it out. There is also a money back garuntee if it doesn't work out for you.

I have RA and Fibromyalgia, I've had the first since I was 11 and the second since I was 14.

I hate the lack of sleep or more on the money, the lack of good sleep. I'm just going into my ninth month of being pregnant and it's so hard some days. Do you see a specialist? If the pain is so bad often enough you might want to set up a type of pain management program, which may include using something to help you sleep and stay asleep which helps a lot with the pain.

Right now since I can't take any of the meds, I live in my bath tub.

The rain usually leaves me in too much pain to do much but wait for it to pass, the change is weather is hard, as is going from air conditioning to not.

I don't really know, since both seem to entail the sleeplessness and muscle spams....but I might lean more to the AS since it makes my joints hurt more.
