Anyone play PalneShift? (free opensource mmorpg)

It's been a while since I played it. I recently got the new download and they added things like combat, mining, forging and many other things to do. So far it's looking very good. Downside is that the only server up right now is not in the US, but what to expect with a game in beta. So anyone been playing this? Let me know what you think of this game.



What is PS? It's an open source 3D MMORPG based on the open source Crystal Space engine/tool set. You know how you can get MUD clients, download them, use them yourself? Well this is just like that but it is a GMUD (graphical Multi User Dungeon) also known as an MMORPG (as MUD's are too).
This project has been coming along very well and soon enough people like you and me will be able to use set up our own GMUD's just like how we set up text based MUD's now (which I do). In fact I ran the Crystal Space engine on my box some time ago and it ran very well. Looking good

Oh and I should mention for those that may try the game out, there was just an update last night so you need to run the updater before you can log in. This is not easy if you are using a Win32 version of Windows (98, 98SE, ME) but the fix is pretty simple. If you need help just let me know, I wrote a step by step hack in the PS forums to fix the problem. I hear XP/win2000 updates fine though. Anyway after downloading the 200 meg game, run the updater after installing. If you have problems, PM me here or search for my posts (by Faithwarrior) in their forums.

BTW I started a Christian Guild in the game tonight. If you are a Born Again Christian (non-cult) and wish to join, just let me know. IF a few people want to join I'll put up a guild site on a pay host with no ads using phpnuke or Xoops with phpbb2. ...With a return link to CF of course

Yeah it's been about 9 months since I played last, the only thing we could do was hunt for crystals back then. This is my second night playing the updated version of PS and it's pretty fun really. Still some bugs but it's pretty stable now... maybe more stable than SWG lol. I've been watching this game because I like the CS engine and its potential. I found this game from the Crystal Space dev site long ago when I was looking for GMUD opensource dev projects.

Anyway, I led a group into the hills tonight and we fought the rogues. It reminds me allot of EQ with the way spawning and camping works (which I like). There were almost too many people in-game tonight but they were mostly in the sewers fighting rats or wondering through the town. There are new zones so it is handling the player load so far. Lag wasn't too bad. I think it's playable now and Looks really nice. For a non-commercial project it is sweet! I'll need to download their server source code sometime soon The server runs on Linux using C++ code, XML and MySQL. Bleeding edge...

Well I guess this topic will fall off the index again. So no one playing this game? or thinking of trying it? for free? Ah well, here is one last screen shot from me. I like it at least I'll be playing this Sunday evening (Pacific time) if anyone wants to group up and go hunting.
