I'm just wondering. Nothing wrong with TTCing in your early 20s, but us older people have different issues. For example, whether or not to go through with all the extra tests if you are over 35. Or, what to do about whether to work or stay at home, or work part time, when you've been in a successful and satisfying career for over a decade - switching to SAHM status might be more traumatic for us older girls.

My DH and I are considering TTCing, but aren't sure how agressively we want to pursue it.

Things that we are discussing include:
~ what "fertility treatments" we would be comfortable with
~ women over 35 are automatically considered to have a "high-risk" pregnancy (which means no midwife)
~ women over 35 have a higher chance of multiple births and other complications
~ women over 35 have a higher change of having children with chromosomal defects
~ I am already perimenopausal (confirmed by blood tests), and there are those issues to deal with
~ being established in our careers, we would lose half of our income if I had to stay home (bed-rest, SAHM, etc.)
~ if we have a baby now, we would be retiring as our children are starting college
~ we've been married less than 6 months, and aren't sure we are ready for a baby yet (and aren't sure we want to "hurry up" just so we can have a baby of our own)

Well, I just turned 30 so I'm not sure if my response counts or not. DH and I have been TTC for over 2 years now. I don't worry too much about what changes in my life a baby might bring. There is a chance that I will never get pregnant anyway. I think I'll be more concerned once I hit 35.

I have some of the same concerns. I look forward to discussing about it.

*BARGE*...

Hi there! I'm not actually TTC, so I hope I don't offend by jumping in...

I had my first at 31 and my twins at 33. We did have assistance in conceiving. All are beautiful and healthy. Also, my sister is currently TTC #2 at 43. Her first was born at 41. Our mother had me at 40.

I'm just chiming in as I'm happily available to discuss any of this. I understand this can be a trying time.

I just had my first child at the age of 32...

We didn't bother with all the extra tests as it wouldn't make any difference to us having the baby...also as far as I'm aware, they don't test for abnormalities here in Ireland.

I'm a SAHM now and I love it. I actually gave up my career a couple of years ago when I got married so making the change to SAHM has been easy...
