  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I always thought it was so cool to get homemade cards from people. So I was wondering if anyone made their own cards (any occasion) for their friends and family? What do you use to make the cards? Anything special?

I actually made one for a friend yesterday (took about an hour) with just a mechanic pencil and a piece of paper. The inside is filled with a letter-like message to her and a few more little hearts. But I'll share it with you guys. :)

I use to make them with stencils and stickers.
Now I do it on the computer with Microsoft Publisher.
I do not use the delivered cards I tweak it to my needs.
I use my own images - photos and graphics.
I do mostly birthday cards.
And I did some of my Christmas cards that way.

:)

I make photo greeting cards with the pictures that I take. I use these blank cards with an opening in the front-you just slide the picture in. I also hand-stamp a message on the front. I've tried to sell them before, but no luck....
Great job on your card, by the way Until Dawn! Do you do a lot of drawing? Well, obviously you do! I can't draw at all. :p

I think he's cute too.
Since I got my digital camera last fall he has been my model.
His picture went on the cover of the May birthday cards I sent out last month.
Aww, what a brilliant idea! ^_^ My birthday's in January if you want to plan ahead. ;) Heh, only teasing. :)

I have Publisher and have tried to make cards with it, but get totally hung up in trying to get them printed correctly.

I now use PrintMaster, and it is really great! I am making note cards for my brother and s-i-l for Christmas. I'm working on a Christmas card design. haven't gotten it finished yet, but give me a little time, and I will!! :)

I make my own greeting cards. :) I've been into rubber stamping for a number of years, and was a demonstrator with Stampin' Up for a couple of years. By now, my family is so used to homemade cards (especially at Christmas) that I hear about it if I send a store-bought card. What was I thinking!?

BTW, beautiful drawings, JoAnna! :)

I've been making cards for my family and friends for years- It ususally takes me at least 3-4 hours per card, depending on how elaborate. I just use construction paper or bristol board. I cut out a lot of pictures and words from magazines and from the newspaper or wherever I might see something relevant to their lives.
Something fun that they really like is when I take a picture of them and cut their head out and stick it on the body of another person. I did that with my dad, put his big head on Tiger Woods' body, since he loves golf- pretty funny too since my dad is white.
I use the "kidnap ransom letter" process too- you know, just cut out different sized and coloured letters for text.
One of my favourite cards was one that I made for my sister- I had a cheap spinning "wheel" in the middle and then in a circle I put pictures of all these different men- some pretty goofy looking, some cartoons, some famous, others she knew and it was like a spin the bottle type thing. she loved it.
The ideas are endless and it's a blast.

a few months ago i started making cards..i sell it to friends/family.
i use 'hand made paper' which is some sort of scrunched up paper..
i buy wood and plastic pieces from two dollar shops. (such as tiny wooden hearts, butterflies, flowers..) these are stuck on the front of the cards.
i print the message. and i have a border for each of my cards.
the range are: birthday, love, friends forever..and since i started this project just before mothers day, i made mother's day cards!!
it takes awhile when you start, but then you have a template and everything so it gets easier.

ooooh ooooh...~raises hand~ I do :D

I used to be heavy in to scrapbooking and card making,(acid free paper, markers, ink and stamps, cardstock) then life got really busy and hectic for a couple of years and now I'm back at it (with a mountain of new pictures to put in my scrapbook:eek: )

As a matter of fact, I went to a scrapbooking party last night.

Your card looks fantastic :)

I love making greeting cards. Used to do it often but I don't have a lot of time to spend to make them now. I am not good at drawing, usually I'll just play with my creativity using different materials to create and decorate the cards. I sold some of them to raise some funds for a campus fellowship a while ago.

Right now since I have been working on the computer a lot for my job (computer graphic field), I do my greeting cards through Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. It's a lot of fun too!

I have made cards for just about any occasion using Corel Draw (versions 3, 4, and 7 at different times) and card stock in an inkjet printer. People who receive them absolutely love them, because they are much more personal than one you can find in stores. And for someone who spent a lot of time looking for the perfect card, they take about as much time to make.
One of my favorites was for Christmas 1999. I drew a picture of a manger (freehand on paper with pencil, which I scanned and made it into a vector graphic that I could manipulate in Corel Draw). The outside of the card had that simple black and white drawing with the message:
"As we enter a new millenium, we remember history is divided at the manger..."
And the inside said:
"But destiny is divided by the cross."
People I sent it to that I hadn't talked to in years called to say how much it moved them.

I've made cards off and on for many years. I first started out drawing and watercolouring or using the coloured pencils. I've also used rubber stamps and used the scrapbook thing as well. I have used several different computer programs too over the years. Lately.... I buy.... haha... I'll get back into making them again soon. Seems like I can never go long without doing so.

Every once in a while I get the grand idea that I want to make cards. . . one Christmas in particular stands out in my memory because my mom & I decided that instead of buying Christmas cards we were going to make them. So we got out rubber stamps, embossing powders, heat gun, etc. and set out for an adventure. . . yeah, I don't think we sent out a single card that year . . .my dad still teases us whenever we even mention the words craft project or card making!! Nonetheless . . .it was a lot of fun!

I have a design in mind for Christmas this year using a "paper piecing" technigue. I haven't finished even one version yet (other than the scrappaper one done with a pencil). First I bought some envelopes at the office supply store and I'm trying to make sure what I make will fit inside them.
