Anyone like the group Weather Report? They had the most unbelievable bass player ever and I can't stop listening to their cds, very well made.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

you must be talking about Jaco Pastorius.
He is one of the greatest bass players period. Look up some Jaco stuff you won't be disappointed.

I don't listen to them much these days, but Weather Report was a good band with some great musicians. I mostly like their earlier experimental-spacejazz albums with the Vitous/Mouzon/Gravatt/Romao rhythm sections -- Weather Report, I Sing the Body Electric, Live in Tokyo 1972, etc. The later 70s fusion stuff has some ripping musicianship, but it just doesn't resonate in quite the same way.

Weather Report and Spyro Gyra were two of my FIL's favorite groups. I think of him whenever I hear them...which is quite a bit, since they're GOOD.

The Weather Report piece of music that I am most familiar with is "Birdland" so many big bands record it as well, it is awesome.
