Has anyone heard when Internet Explorer 7.0 is coming out? I have heard that it will have tabbed browsing so I can't wait! I'd gladly use Internet Explorer instead of FireFox all the time if it had tabbed browsing.

I don't remeember specifically if I heard it, but I remember it slightly....

IE7 w/ vista, and then the xp version after that.. at least what I heard.

Used IE7, hate it. Horrible on websites that work perfectly in IE6. Sure, it's still in beta, but I'll stick with Firefox and Opera

Is that still the case? Was I just imagining that?

I don't know. I did hear at one time that it was going to be released when they release Windows "Longhorn" (not sure if that's Windows Vista or not) but then they changed it and said they would release it for Windows XP as well.

Mind me asking why? I'm just curious to find out why people use IE over Firefox when there's an increasing enthusiasm for Firefox. :)

Personally, I just enjoy the feel of IE more. I have FF and Opera on my system, right next to IE on my quick launch bar, but time and again I click the blue E.

I haven't experienced the problems that some others have had with it.

I'm using IE7 right now and I love it. Firefox just doesn't have the same capabilities as IE. For better or worse it just won't interface with XP like IE does. As for the final release, won't be till at least the first quarter of next year according to Microsoft.

As for the page rendering, IE7 does do things different than IE6, but that change brings Microsft much closer to the standards used in Firefox and other browsers. It won't take long for sites to convert over. Heck, I've already converted all the sites I maintain.

I don't know if it's just the systems I use, but I find that IE (both 6 and 7) have been consistently slower than Firefox. Plus I find several of the add-ins for FF really useful.

But I don't wish to turn this into a browser war...:D

On a semi-unrelated note, Firefox 1.5 is notably quicker loading and browsing when I'm using Ubuntu Breezy than when I'm using Windows, and both of them are using the same version number of FF. I'd suspect that IE would be just as slow as ever, if not slower, because it would have to run through WINE.

I'm pretty sure it comes out at the same time as that abomination Vista. Though, honestly, I'm pretty sure that if you played with firefox enough, you would end up liking it far more than IE. But that's me. :p

I did, I didn't, I continue to choose IE over it. :)

One thing I prefer is having multiple IE windows opened and then using the modified Alt-Tab display (shows a mini picture of what is on the screen) to show me what each "tab" has on it. Makes finding the right window much quicker (especially when doing staff duty on CF). I find in general that CF works better with IE.

Just my preference.

I dont think that he was saying that IE7 is really close to the standards... he's just saying that it's taking a step closer. Microsoft has realized that they need to step it up a notch and get back up to date with browser standards.

I used IE7 awhile ago... found it buggy and didn't like the layout at all, I thought it was extremly ugly. But then, that was during it's first beta stage... I may download it again soon. I dunno.. i try to stay away from microsoft stuff as much as I can.

Personally, I think it will take more than just tabbed browsing to get me to use IE7! ;) Then again, I'm trying to be as "Microsoft Free" as I can be these days. I'm forced to use Windows at work, so I choose Firefox as my browser. It doesn't perform *quite* as good as IE appearance wise, but is far easier to use once you get used to it.

I'll use IE7 cuz I have to when my users start getting it. But I don't have to like it. ^_^

There are some problems with FF. It doesn't display overlay graphics correctly until you refresh (which is why the CF character sare all over the place) and it stores cookies in common for separate browser instances. This is a real problem if you are administering a network via a browser.

Also, the memory footprint of FF constantly increases and FF is loathe to surrender that memory.

Other than that, I love FF!

I love the character!

PD, not my intention to start any sort of war. :) My original question to you wasn't asked with that in mind. Also, I read an article that pretty much guaranteed it would be released in conjunction with "the manufacturing launch" of Vista, and that future major releases would be more frequent (for example, the author was guessing that an IE 7.5 would come in late 2007).
