  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you hand quilt or use a machine? I sew by machine unless it's got curved pieces. The only type of quilting I've tried is tying. Haven't felt brave enough to do anything else yet.

What patterns have you used? Anything traditional or do you make your own or use patterns out of magazines?

I've completed two quilts. One was a log cabin in a straight furrows pattern. Blue and Yellow. I gave it to my cousin for her baby. The other quilt I got the pattern from Quiltmaker magazine. It's called Chain of Jewels. I made it for my dad. Now I'm working on a wallhanging, monkeywrench in brown/black and of course the celtic wedding ring.

I do both hand and machine quilting. i usually do my piecing by manchine , but i am hand piecing a Grandmother's flower garden variation called "Field of Diamonds". for that one an extra hex is added to the top and bottom of each flower to make a diamond shape.

i've done several quilts.
a queen sized log cabin in red, green and tan,
a flannel quilt in a quick step 4 patch
a green and white irish chain
a monkey wrench from Christmas fabrics
a wyoming Star table topper
Square in a square out of early Robyn Pandolph fabrics
turning 20
Simply irresistable (variation of turning 20)
Carpenter's star
3 mystery quilts (those are fun!)
a sampler quilt in blues & white
a rainbow sampler quilt
and more that are in the works, plus 7 table runners

Yarn knot quilts are quilts who's layers are held together by putting a piece of yarn through the layers and tying a knot. You have to put a bit of them in to hold the quilt well. There is no actual quilting the layers with thread. I have done a few quilts I wish now I had taken pictures before I gave them away. I did one quilt that was sho-fly and one that was pinwheels. Usually we take 12 x 12 squares of various matching material and make our tops that way. I have kept two quilts at home I will take a pic and post it to give you a better idea.

I love quilting, too. I worked on a few quilts with my mom when I was younger, but I've also finished quite a few projects on my own in the last 2 years. I do everything with my sewing machine...piecing and quilting.

Machine quilting is simple once you get started...a bit scary at first, but just remember, it's only thread. ;)

I've done about 10 to 15 quilts so far. Super fun. I love quilting. :D

Hi, I am currently working on two baby quilts. I have done several quilts over the years, but just started quilting again a few years ago when the grandbabies started coming. I had never actually quilted one before (always tied them) until I did the first grandbabies. Machine quilting is fun and not all that hard, the first one was a bit unsettling but have done two more since and now working on the last two. Pray that I will get this current one done, I have one week to finish before we go to visit and I am a bit under the gun.

Nice to meet all you quilters  and I will have to come back here when I return from my trip. I like the idea of posting pictures, that would be fun to see others creations.

I love quilting!

I'm very slow though, because I hand-piece and hand-quilt all my quilts. I find it more relaxing to quietly do all the work by hand, rather than on a noisy machine, plus I find it easier to control my stitches.

Right now I'm obsessed with applique, and I've designed and stitched some wall hangings.

I also love going to quilt shows, to look at all the beautiful things other quilters are creating.

I tried to post an example of the quilt I am working on now...It is the Cathedral Window Quilt..I am making it for my youngest daughter...She will graduate High School on the 18th of May...I started it when she was in the sixth grade...When we moved here three years ago I stuck it in the closet and I just got it out...so please pray that I will get it done...It is really a beautiful quilt....I have made several over the years....This one will end of being my favorite....One thing is for sure no one else in the family will get one because I am not doing another....lol....
God Bless,
Joy

My grandmother used to make the most beautiful quilts! I have always wanted to get into it, but sort of fear mine will never be as good as hers was. I have 3 of her quilts, lovingly stored in a closet. It is such a great legacy to have ones work treasured so much by children and grandchildren after one is gone.
