I was thinking having sections for each band, a featured artist every week or 2(depending on interest) - and a podcast show every sunday (again, depending on interest) - having a selection of songs for maybe 15/20 mins. I am in a worship band and I am currently looking at designing a website for the parish as well. Thanks for the offer of help, I may possibly take you up on that!

Its fine to do something online without a profit motive, however, it doesn't take too long when streaming audio to hit bandwidth limits, unless you have a large wallet. I only mention this, as its a good idea to make provisions for a revenue stream now, as it will be easier later on with good planning. Too many great sites died when the financial burden on the owner got to be too large to fund anymore. At that time, it may be too late to try and raise revenue.

One other thought, ftp can open the doors for major security issues, and may be beyond the average user to figure out. Its a major usability issue.

Now, the exception might be if you restrict your focus to regional bands, that way you can always help them personally, and generating a regional following may be easier than a world wide one. In addition, it would really set your site apart, and imho would be really cool. Once you have one region set up and running, then expand to othters as your time allows.

Very good reply. Pretty much sums up what I was thinking. Chances are you will need to go with banner adds... a lot of them. Bandwith costs skyrocket when you start streaming. One band who is popular enough might have close to 5,000 plays a day or more if they release a track before a new cd. 5,000 x 3.5megs = bandwith ^. The site wouldn't be open for very long before you go over limits and over budget.

I'm not sure I like the idea of FTP for uploading and managing. I would much rather deal with a graphic interface when it comes to that. I like the throw and go idea much better so there is no waiting around for accounts to be created.

hey dude, i think its a great idea. my band is based in NY/NJ, we are just starting out, but we're excited for the months ahead. Whatever it is you plan on doing, go ahead and do it even if it involves uber hard work. I'm right behind ya, best of luck...

Yeah I offered free hosting for your sites for this idea but the mod slapped me around and scolded me for doing os. My guess is if your wanting any sponsorship for this site is to PM me or you might get in trouble. This site is nothing like I was told it was.
