Yes I've seen the tons of books out there! Wow there really are a lot. I'm a big doodler so that's one reason I want to go into it. My stepsister does it for weddings and stuff and it's a great side income if you have the time for it. I just need to become more disciplined. I need to practice more consistently because when I do I get better. I'd love to post my practice & get some critiques... Next time I'll take some pics. I think I would also be good at painting calligraphy.

People keep telling me it's all practice so I guess I just need to KEEP PRACTICING!

I've done some calligraphy in the past and the main key is to keep practicing. There are a ridiculous amount of online resources, not to mention books that are in-print and that you can find at the library or a book shop. Find something that works for you and then go for it~

I do a little bit of calligraphy, but only coincidentally to my main interest, which is Celtic Illumination. It's a very time intensive hobby if you're gonna get good at it. To be honest, I prefer to cheat, so I print off what I need on the computer from a celtic font package, cut it up and paste it how I want it, and then trace it using tracedown paper. The resulting line (called a skeletal) is then gone over with a broad nibbed pen, making the whole thing look hand drawn.
The Guy who started me off on calligraphy reckons it takes about 10 years of practice to become really proficient in any one hand, although you can learn as many as you have capacity for at the same time.
