I have a Nintendo 3Ds and I own Pokemon Y and Pokemon X, but I have no idea what friend codes are. Can you explain them?

My Pokemon are all level 60 or higher. I am just telling you this because I don't want to fight someone who is weaker than me and end up hurting them.
