  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any secular justification for "Defense of Marriage"?

You cannot separate the two, as I have yet to seen a person argue that a gay couple should be able to marry, but then not be allowed to adopt or raise a child.

Gay couples can already adopt without getting married. Many gay couples are already raising children. Allowing SSM will not increase the number of gay couples raising kids.

Gay parenting is a consequence of gay marriage, therefor it is a valid secular argument against gay marriage.

I believe my argument should be addressed.

But it's irrelevant. There is absolutely no requirement to demonstrate parenting ability in order to get married. Secondly, despite the questionable statistics you provided, a loving married gay couple who adopts a child can be a far better family environment than an unloving married straight couple that had a shotgun wedding after getting knocked up.

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell ya... Of course making same sex marriage more main stream, will also make gay parenting more main stream.

Comparing a "loving" couple to an "unloving" one is comparing apples and oranges. You have to look at loving heterosexual parents vs. loving homosexual parents, or unloving heterosexual vs. unloving homosexual if you want to be intellectually honest. The study I provided does just this.

To deny the negative effects of gay parenting is to deny the psychological consequences of a child growing up without a mother or without a father. It is to claim that a child gains nothing unique from a father or a mother, that as long as there are two parents, all is well.

We cannot control loving vs. unloving households in either heterosexual or homosexual households. But if we know the inherent nature of negative psychological consequences of one over the other, comparing apples to apples, and you advocate for the more negative, then you are placing the importance of a romantic relationship over the importance of a child's well being.

"Evolutionists" always gives me a great laugh.

I am also a germist, for I believe in the germ theory of disease.

Next thing you'll be telling us you're one of those gravitationalists!

I believe in an ancient universe, and yet an ecosystem which did not grow on it's own but rather God replacing them thereafter extinction.

I believe in microgravity but not macrogravity.

Me too! I believe that objects can fall no further than 10,000 metres. These arrogant science types that think that things can fall for miles and miles are just injecting their own religious beliefs into 'true' science!

The Family Research Council is a disgusting hate group that distorts data to demonize gay people. Their Co-founder was caught hiring a gay prostitute in Europe.

Using them as a resource proves you have no clue what you're talking about and you have a clear anti-gay bias.

He quotes FRC and Regenrus. Anti-gay extremists are incapable of relying on reliable, honest sources. They have to use lies and hatred to support their barbaric beliefs.
