  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all. So, I'm a singer. Not famous or anything, just something I do at home when hubby is at work. lol. I love singing and, if I ever really had the money and the opportunity, I'd try to get noticed. I'm a soprano. I love singing opera.

Any other singers here? If so, why style are you? Do you sing at church or just on your own?

c2w, fun to find you somewhere else!
I am a professional musician but primarily instrumental. I sing mezzo-soprano. I have a decent range but my voice is choral, not solo. I blend well with other voices but I admit to sounding a bit bland alone. I sing in choir at church, and worship team. My husband and I sang a duet just last week. But, I'm much more comfortable with some sort of instrument making the noise instead of me!

Pro singer/song writer/musician/producer/voice actor checking in.

Mostly Rock/Pop, but I've ventured into some other areas as well such as different traditional cultural styles.

I have a comfortable 4 and a half octave range, five if I push a little harder, but I don't like doing that too often. Hopefully soon with my continued training, I'll be able to hit a comfortable 5 and find my whistle voice. Takes time and practice as well as proper instruction.

Whistle voice! At the risk of sounding like a little kid... woohoo! I have never worked my vocals enough to discover my own. Like I said, I'm an instrumentalist primarily.

C2W, I'm a woodwinds player and concert band composer. Clarinet, oboe, flute and sax are my focus instruments. I think it's awesome you sing opera. I wish I could, but as I've said, I'm such a choral voice it would be a little silly to try. I can hit notes cleanly but that's as good as I get.

Hey Blythe! :) What instruments do you play?

tcwoods...another Oregonian! :) A friend of mine graduated from George Fox a year ago, I think. How many songs have you written?

Awesome to see another Oregonian on here! :) So far I've written about 25 or so songs.

I just got done being sick and still can't sing like I could before. :( It's coming back though so hopefully it'll keep coming.

I've been so busy with school I haven't had time to keep writing songs but I want to.

I'm a singer/songwriter/musician. I haven't a clue of my range or anything. I just kinda sing. I don't have a fantastic voice or anything, but I can carry a tune. I pretty much depend on my musician/songwriter skills to make up for my vocal mediocrity. I've led worship before and am working on getting a band back together. I sing worship stuff, obviously. It's tending towards alternative or acoustic pop as of late.

I am primarily a pianist, but I LOVE to sing. I would love to get lessons so I have a better range. I am most definitely an alto. I have no idea what style best suits me. Still trying to figure that out. I have a big voice when I want to, but am still learning to control it. Would enjoy singing with soul but don't have the control down.

Music is definitely a huge part of my life. I have played piano for around 18 years, guitar for close to 10, and I goof off with instruments like drums, violin, and the organ. I also sing and have been a worship leader since I was in high school. I have around 35 songs written with only about 20 copyrighted. I mostly play/sing/write contemporary christian music. Though I am classically trained in piano (that was my emphasis in college).

Oh, and I'm proud to say I'm an alto! :)

Agreed. Most of the time I'm singing some song in my head, if not out loud

Totally me! I used to get busted in high school for "listening to my music" instead of paying attention - even when I didn't have headphones in!

I don't have real formal training - just choirs and stuff. Though I was in the Alberta Children's Honour Choir when I was younger - which is NOT easy to do. Been in a few bands through high school and beyond.
One of which is on purevolume.com - and of course, since I don't have 50 posts, I can't post the link.. everyone I have showed it to seems to like it. (If you wanna look it up, the band name was logically declined, song was called judgement)

I tend to lead towards..progressive, alternative and such
I have been told time and time again I sound A LOT like Amy Lee of Evanescene, as well as a few others I can't think of right now. I do go to Karoke a lot and I always get comments after I go :D

I swear without music, I would shrivel and die
