I just read about it in my diocesan newspaper. It really sounds like something I'd be interested in. It might help with my difficulty with the rosary as well.

Check it out & tell me what you think.

Michie this looks awesome. I have been looking for something like this.
Have you or anyone else checked if the church is ok with participating in this?

Not sure if it would be a bad thing.

is a movement all its own. it is a contemporary core workout strengthening body & soul through exercise and meditation on the life of Christ in the rosary. A sensory experience that combines candlelight, aromatherapy, music and sacred art providing participants the opportunity to nourish body, mind & soul while contemplating the mysteries and fruits of the rosary.

Might teach ppl to relax and therefore go deeper into the mysteries of the Rosary.

Yes it's ok. It was in the diocesan newspaper so it's passed the Bishop's sniff test. It's basically learning to pray & concentrate with your entire being. Connecting body, mind, & soul. You hold different poses while praying the rosary.

Here is an excerpt of what I read:

The Benefits of SoulCore are that you are absolutely nourishing your soul through the process of the prayers. Our focus is on the fruits of the mysteries which takes you into a deeper place spiritually and certainly physically because you are moving your body with the prayers.

SoulCore is ultimately an engraved invitation to the world to practice praying the rosary regularly with your sacred body and share the message with your neighbor.

Karen Buntin who goes to the class weekly said:

" I love how the many postures of sitting, standing and kneeling parallel with the liturgy. Praying with our entire being helps us to pray with greater attention. I thought it was a challenging to focus on both my physical body as well as the meditative prayer."

Pretty much sounds like a win win. I guess the postures are concentrated on the core of your body. I think that have produced a DVD as well. I need to look at the site closer to see.

Michie - have you looked properly at the Site and looked at the Video on the page about the 'workout ' as they call it ?

If not - please do - remember they are praying the Rosary as they do these moves
I haven't looked closely yet. I just read this in our weekly paper & plan to look into it further.

Michie - please do look at every page on the Site . Theoretically it sounds OK , practically - I'm not too sure .

The Video on on the 'workout' page I really found disturbing the workout — SoulCore Project

I'll look at it but it will take me forever as I am still on dial-up.

Can you describe what disturbed you?

I don't want to get into anything shady.

the exercise positions

Reciting the Rosary while doing pushups does seem a tad strange - not to mention the other movements they show - think some yoga positions done whilst reciting the Rosary -such as balancing on your right leg and your left one raised and stretched out behind you and your left hand touching the ground and your right arm stretched out in front of you - does this really sound like a prayer position ?

No it doesn't. But is there anything wrong with it? It is an exercise/prayer class. It would not be appropriate in Church of course. I've said the rosary while walking my dogs & jogging... I thought this would be something along those lines?

I'll look at it later this evening. I think I'm going to go to the vigil Mass today.

Thanks for weighing in An. That's what I wanted. :)

Michie - I say the Jesus Prayer while out walking and on buses and trains and planes - but I'm darned if I could concentrate on it while doing some of these positions - and she says they can be hard .

Don't forget the Aromatherapy side of it too - yes I use Incense for prayer at times , but I don't call it aromatherapy - it's all smelling a bit 'New Agey ' to me

Yeah I did notice the aroma therapy. I have an real aversion to all things New Age but it all seemed pretty kosher to me from reading the article. But I did want the opinion of others on this as well. I know there are other things in the Church concerning prayer & meditation I would not try. Anything that tries to incorporate weird new age things & aspects of other religions into prayer makes me uncomfortable.

Scented candles in themselves isn't a problem for me though.

I just thought this was a novel idea for prayer That might help someone like me that struggles with the rosary.

When I get home later this evening I'm going to try to download that video.

Michie - did you manage to get a look at the Video ?

I'd be interested in your thoughts
I've tried to download it several times. It will not download on the site & sent me to Vimeo. I got to Vimeo & it said 'No Video'. So I have no idea because I can't watch it.

Well Michie - my advice is stay away from SoulCore

I wouldn't touch it with a 6 foot barge pole ! And believe me I rarely say things like that.

Things can be advertised in Diocesan newsletters that are not completely inline with Church practice [ I've seen ones about Jesuits leading meditations on very strange subjects ]

If I want exercise classes I'll enrol for them.

If I want classes to teach me to pray - I'll enrol for them.

I think you are right. I'm going to skip this one. It sounded good but if there is any question, I'd rather not. I'm glad you weighed in. Thanks!
