I must confess that it is one of the few shows that I have watched with any regularity and have enjoyed most of them. It's definitely not a "family" program. I like the gritty realism of the program and find the stories and characters compelling despite the show being laced with liberal doses of profanity and violence. The strike team was disbanded for only a short time. I like Vic, but can't stand Shane.

My husband, L1rider, and I love The Shield! We have both lived very violent and immoral lives (lives of crime) before coming to Christ and can really relate to many of the situations on the show. It seems all too real for me sometimes though....like when Vic was helping the young prostitute to get out of the business and she ended up getting killed in a vice operation    ............ way too real........yet, I think people need to know that situations such as this happen in real life EVERYDAY!

I have a house in Fayette, Alabama and the Sheriff of that County is a convicted felon and the people (including myself) just love him. He can not
carry a handgun, but he says he does not need too.

The Shield does and excellent job on blurring the lines between good/evil and right and wrong. It's shows good people can do bad things and vice versa. It allows for good drama cause it is not as predictable as some shows.

The new season is insane so far. I can't wait to see Mackey go to war against IAD.

My guess for how the strike team survives is that Vic finds a copy of the picture of Aceveda's rape on the street and thenuses that to blackmail Aceveda from co-operating with IAD.

I can't believe how underapreciated "The Shield" is. Not just here, but in general. Anyway Soupysales is right, I personally don't like the Forrest Whitaker epeisodes as much as the other ones, but he is doing a great job. Note to all buy the DVD's and get caught up, or star watching on Spike TV this show is the best thing on television at the moment.

It is not for children, but it presents realistic characters in a morally ambigous world. While this may not be a completely original idea, it is done far better then any show has done it in the past. Having lived in areas of LA which have been fictionalized into Farmington, all I can say is wow.

If you were a police captain, what would you do with Vic?

Honestly? I'd be alot like Cpt. Billings this season. As long as Vic gets the job done, I really wouldn't want to know anymore than that. On the other hand, I could never excuse Vic for killing another cop in cold blood. There is no amount of 'good' police work that he can do to redeem himself for that. Vic has to go to prison.

It depends, how aware am I of Vic's doings on the street. Do I have the viewers omnipresent view, or do I have suspicions, but no facts to back them up.

If I had suspicions and not facts I would let him know he was going to be watched all the time, but still put him back on the street. If I knew he was dirty the way the viewer does I would throw him in jail.

As much as I feel for the strike team in the fictional world of The Shield, corrupt cops hurt the entire department and the city they are supposed to protect. Communities are safest when there are high levels of trust and cooperation between the police and the community. There are tons of open air drug sales in broad daylight where I live. But people here are intimadated by and mistrustful of the police. As a result almost non of the violence and drug dealing that occours in my neighborhood is reported. One bad cop can undo the work of over a hundred good ones.

Also in reality officers like Vic arn't needed to make busts on the street. Itelligent hardworking, and above the board cops know who the drug dealers, gang banger, and what not are. They also arrest them on a regular basis. The failing is not with the police, but with the other aspects of our criminal justice system. In Los Angeles, you can get caught selling crack get a sympathetics judge and only be sentanced to 180 days. Then due to prison and Jail overcrowding its not unrealistic to only serve 18 days of a 180 day sentance before you are back on the street.

Very violent as well as lots of cursing![/quote]
Vic has to go to prison.

But I bet he does not. Me, I'd be more like Aceavada (sp?) who I bet bails the strike team out of this most recent jam...for a price....
