I just bought his box set which includes 47 cd's in all from amazon for $179.98!! I'm listening to them from beginning to end. I'm currently on Blonde on Blonde!

My favorite artist. I think most critics consider B on B to be his best album, but my favorite is HW61 Revisited. I think it may be because much of Blonde on Blonde is simply over my head. Are you familiar with HW61 Re? The last 2 songs are amazing to me. Slip on a pair of headphones and listen to Desolation Row. It has been my understanding for many years that the melodic guitar was more or less a last-minute thing. My son found a website dedicated to just that one song and according to the accounts at that site C McCoy showed up at the studio thinking he was to play piano, but Dylan had changed his mind and gave that to another, so, according to them, Charlie just picked up a guitar and began to follow along, creating the melody on-the-fly. The result is obvious. If you just allow your head to follow that guitar work it could stand on its own. Pay special attention to the brilliant work he does during the 2 harmonica solos. And, as Thunder Peel pointed out, another great album is Blood on the Tracks. Dylan can really spin a yarn as revealed in Lilly, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. It's just simply amazing how very fast the tempo is in many of Bob's songs particularly that tune. And the music in it sounds almost like carnival music. Listen to the way it rapidly winds up between verses. If you are new to Dylan you have many, many treats to discover. Most Dylan naysayers consider his singing voice to be the worst in the business, but if you listen careful it's the way he pronounces words and the way he strings words together that make him above the rest, in my opinion. " She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear!".
I really like Highway 61 revisited. It's probably my favorite album so far that I've listened to. I'm up to Nashville Skyline now. I'm still listening to them in order.
On Highway 61 Revisited I really like Like a Rolling Stone and Tombstone Blues. Those are my favorites off that album!
By the way, Rolling Stone Mag gave "Like a Rolling Stone" the #1 spot for best rock song of all time. Blonde on Blonde & HW61 Re. are very near the top of their best albums.
Merrily, just curious...what do you think of Desolation Row? I think it's all acoustic.
This version surely is
Happy days.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone else say they got into Dylan through the Budokan album. Good for you. And thanks for the link. I'd forgotten that it had at least the one positive review in Rolling Stone. Most critics panned it at the time it came out. For me, I didn't think it was as listenable as Before The Flood, but I still played it quite a bit when it was first released. I was working in a record store when it came out, and the staff was a bit dumbfounded by parts of it. Still, it seems like we sold one or two whenever we had it playing in the store. It's too bad a later show from this tour wasn't released. The band really came around and the end of the tour was way better than the Japan dates.I've been a fan for over 30 years , I became curious about Dylan through discovering Hendrix , one thing lead to another and I took the plunge with Dylan live at the Budokan double album and that opened up a million doors .
My fav Dylan album remains Street Legal , songs of love and lament.
