• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I can't find the original thread and I'm in the middle of fixing dinner but I got the answer today and I am impressed that someone needs to know for sure?

Whether our disorder or any other disorder is a blessing or a curse, or an anointing of sorts, is whether or not we are submitted to God. Whether or not our lives are under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit and we have commended ourselves to be of service to God or whether we are living our lives for ourselves and the world.

We already know that much of the world rejects us and sees us sometimes with much contempt.

However, if we see ourselves through the Lord's eyes, if we answer the call that He has on our lives, and I do believe we each have a distinct calling, then we bring honor and glory to God.

And even more important than whether or not we learn to deal with people the way other's do or whether we become functional in the worlds eyes, or neuro typical people's eyes, is that if we know that we know we are doing God's will in our lives and we discover God's purpose for our lives, we are not truly dysfunctional, we've been re-assigned and re-purposed and what a wonderful purpose it is!!!!

1 Corinthians 1:23-29 AMP
23 We preach Christ (the Messiah) crucified, [preaching which] to the Jews is a scandal and an offensive stumbling block [that springs a snare or trap], and to the Gentiles it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense.
24 But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek (Gentile), Christ [is] the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
25 [This is] because the foolish thing [that has its source in] God is wiser than men, and the weak thing [that springs] from God is stronger than men.
26 For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth.
27 [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame.
28 And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are,
29 So that no mortal man should [have pretense for glorying and] boast in the presence of God.

Some symptoms have caused me and others pain and with help I am working toward overcoming these. On the other hand without certain symptoms and effects of symptoms I would be very different and might not love God as do now. It is a great challenge but I am happy if because of it I have known God better.

It's just different than the NTs. I notice that I and they seem to have the same number of difficulties, just at different places in our lives. What is easy for me is hard for them and vice versa. But God can handle me just fine. He speaks Aspergian...!

If one considers what Aspergers is it can help to look at the world after WWII. There were a number of children who did not do well in school. The term "Minimal Brain Dysfunction" was used in the 1960s because the only reason those in the education industry could fathom for poor school behavior was some as yet undetectable brain abnormality. I suspect that the reason this seemed so pronounced after WWII was that before the war those who found school intolerable went their own way with little notice. The compulsory nature of the post war period made such options less available.

Classical (severe) autism has been seen as the result of brain damage as a result of several post mortem autopsies. It has been assumed that what was called Aspergers must be a form of autism (the implication being the result of brain damage, disease, malformation, or other disorder).

I would suggest that what was called Aspergers is a group of neural sensory and processing variations caused or influenced by biology, genetics, diet, environment, and even injury. One thing that would support this view is that what is now called ADHD is one of the things that morphed out of MBD. This was observed to be treatable with amphetamines. I would suggest that the alteration of neural processing speed would support the view that neural processing differences are being observed rather than the effects of brain damage or disease.

I once substituted teaching a Sunday School class. There was a girl in the class who was complaining about one of the boys because he was acting a little foolish as boys often do. I told her that if God had given him extra energy, it may be because He had extra work for him to do.

Satan runs the world (for now and insofar as he is allowed by God). Satan wants to collectivize the entire world to increase his leverage and influence. He has been working at this for centuries (unfortunately making great use of Christians). At our present point in history children are removed from the parents to whom God gave them and placed in an industrial processing system called school. In addition to being indoctrinated with the state religion of secularism (the worship of man in general and self in particular), these children are graded for their usefulness in the world system. Those who are difficult to process are subjected to therapies and drugs.

If a person views the ability to blend in and be accepted by the world system as the greatest good, then Aspergers can seem quite a curse. However, if one prefers to escape the world system and its social requirements, then it can be a blessing. It may be that God allows some this condition to be able to resist the societal pull and be available for His use to help others.

Aspergers may be like the red pill in the movie the Matrix. God wants some of us to be more able to resist the soporific comfort of the broad way that leads to destruction.
