• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm new to this forum and yes Im asking allot of questions lately, sorry, bare with me, I'm a little manic right now so this is the only thing keeping me busy. Was just wondering when u feel manic and you dont act on it by spending or going out, like if you are sitting in by yourself and are feeling manic do you talk to yourself as if there are other people or person listening,or sing or blast music or dance? Is that something normal people do all the time or is that a manic sign? Also does your heart get all fast, palpitations maybe? That's what I'm having now. Oh gawd.....Oh one other thing..if you are in a car driving and you are going somewhere does it really make you mad like you just wanna speed up and get there..I always think man I wish I could just be there.

Yes. I experience that as well. I was never really the spending type...perhaps because I was a student all my life until a month ago and never had money . I blast music and I've spent most of my manic times alone. When I'm around people I get highly irritable. But alone, I enact stories out loud, play multiple characters in these stories and dance. The palpitations...I'm not sure but I get shivers. My chest closes up and I cold sweat and shake. It's horrid. As terrible as I feel I can't get my energy level to go down so I can relax and see if that helps.

The car issue, I can't drive yet but I run when I'm manic. I just wish there was unlimited space. I never have a destination in mind so I don't seem to be in a hurry but I do rush and then I run out of space. If I'm walking somewhere I get annoyed by delays, slow people, cars...that sort of thing. I have irrational almost violent thoughts towards them at these times.

Hope that helped and fell free to keep asking...I talk alot and ramble when I'm manic as well. at least it's a constructive way to deal.

God Bless.

Whenever I had a bad manic spell, my heart would have palpatations, my chest felt tight, I would sweat and be short of breath. When I am having a manic spell, I listen to soothing music and try to make myself relax. I also avoid caffeine and alchohol as those make manic spells worse.

All of these things can be associated with manic episodes. I have entire conversations with myself when I'm manic and alone. I think that it is important to try a few things when you are feeling this way as others have mentioned. Read, listening to music, etc...

Finding ways to help vent that energy and brain activity can make a huge difference in how long your episodes may last.

I've also noted that people suffering from Bipolar Disorder often experience mild symptoms of other illnesses. For me, OCD and Panic Attacks sometimes accompany shifts in my mood. Talking with your doctor and maybe starting a journal of sorts to make note of specific instances may help you to manage your symptoms on a more personal and complete level.

Hi Mariah!! Welcome and continue sharing because are helping others to know about themselves as well! If you have access to a behavioral psychiatrist, then I would urge you to be evaluated. You have had many encouraging words here from posters but starting pharmaco-therapy will potentially reduce your suffering. You must talk to your priest or minister as well to orient yourself in good light with our Lord, for as you are helping yourself, you will avail yourself to others and truly heal!!

WELCOME MARIAH!!!
