Conspiracy theories are conspiracy, (plot, scheme, plan) theories.
People are locked up for conspiracy to murder, theft etc. They don't have to have committed the deed or held the gun, but they contributed to the plan or, in some cases, just knew about it.
In the Bible, people made plans to kill someone, 1 Kings 12:20, Acts 23:13, to declare themselves as king, 2 Samuel 15:12 or some other criminal event. A conspiracy, or plot, suggests sneakiness, cunning and secret planning. This is the opposite of openness and truth - no one sneaks around, plotting to tell the truth - and is therefore the opposite of all that Jesus stands for.
