Whoa..another forgery from the EVOS..I thought they were the scientists and the creationists were liars and quote-mongers:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1248079.stm

"The specimen, known as Archaeoraptor, captured the attention of the scientific world when unveiled by the National Geographic Society, US, in October 1999.

It reportedly came from a site in China's Liaoning Province that has yielded a host of exquisitely preserved early birds.

A reconstruction of how the tiny feathered dinosaur might have looked

With its mix of dinosaur and bird-like features, many palaeontologists believed that Archaeoraptor captured the moment in evolution when dinosaurs were experimenting with flight.

But it later emerged that the tail had been glued on to increase the fossil's commercial value before being sold to a dealer.

The tail turned out to be from a new type of bird-like feathered dinosaur - Microraptor - the smallest, adult dinosaur yet discovered. "

Nope, greed causes many to succumb to fraud napajohn. Self-righteousness and idol worship are the plagues of creationism. Surely you already know that by now.

IOW, the fossil is still evidence of a transitional species between birds and dinosaurs...something that creationism says is impossible.

Good work napajohn. With friends like you, creationism certainly doesn't need any enemies.

BTW, are you going to address my points on the racism threads, or can we assume that you have conceded the points?

Nope. You're wrong. Imagine that? Napajohn wrong... who would have thought it was possible? If you bothered to read the article you'd have noticed that it wasn't scientists who created this but it was the scientific community that exposed it. Whoever created this didn't do it in an attempt to fool science, but they did it to get a higher price for the fossil.

I think it's also significant that you don't hear about hoaxes (in their unrefuted form) in the scientific community. You won't hear scientists bringing up this find in five years, assuming it is proof of one theory or another simply because it has been easily disproven.

Compare that to YEC arguements that keep coming up over and over, not only out of ignorance, but out of a popular refusal to question the beliefs or even the evidence!

But it later emerged that the tail had been glued on to increase the fossil's commercial value before being sold to a dealer.

Computed Tomography (CT), a technique more common in medical examination, was used to investigate how the forgery was put together. The analysis was carried out at the University of Texas at Austin, US, in collaboration with experts in China and Canada.
napa makes himself look foolish.

Does it matter when he brought it up?
Yes, because he presented it as "news" of "another" hoax from evolutionists. This story is old news - the hoax was exposed, by biologists, only a few months after it was perpetrated. There wasn't time for the fake fossil to be cited in papers or cause a major rethink of bird evolution. If National Geographic (a popular science magazine, not an academic journal) hadn't jumped the gun few people would have heard of it.

Ok, so we have someone perpetrating a hoax on scientists. The scientists fall for it, but only for a couple months. They expose it as a hoax and stop using it.

Wahoo, score one for honest scientists that check up on their work.
Now if only we could get creationists to do the same. :)

Great post napa. :)

OK. Thats fine. But what does this article do for the creationist agenda Godzman?

First: this hoax was fabricated to earn money...not to push evolution.
Second: the fossils still provide evidence of transitional speciation...something napajohn refuses to acknowledge.

IOW, why is this article relevant Godzman? It only hurts napajohn's case. He is willing to use it here to 'stir the pot', not provide meaningful discussion. Havn't you noticed that trend in his posts?

Meanwhile, our adversaries on the other side of the fence still basing their claims on the likes of Kent Hovind and Ron Wyatt.

It has to be new in order for it to be called news. otherwise you just have s.

Hey did you guys hear? The stock market collapsed - in 1928!!

I like how john left out the fact that the actual fossils are still scientifically significant and provide evidence for the dino-bird kinship.
