The first chapter of the Book of Matthew indicates that Mary and Joseph had a normal marriage relationship after the birth of Jesus. Both Matthew and Luke described Jesus as Mary's firstborn (Matthew 1:25, Luke 2:70), which implied that there were other children born. They accompanied their mother Mary in Matthew 12:46; Mark 3:32; Luke 8:20. They are mentioned in Matthew 13:55,56 as brothers and sisters--some of their names were recorded as James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas. Jesus' brother James was the author of the Book of James in the New Testament and was a prominent, if not the chief, leader of the Church in Jerusalem. The Book of Jude was written by Jude ("Judas") the brother of James and Jesus.
