  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So...as I'm sure you all know, yesterday was the Annunciation. We didn't make it to church - no excuse - just lazy I guess. Anyway - since we didn't go to church, we read the story together as a family from the Gospel of Luke. When we finished reading, it struck me how different the Luke story is from the the one in Matthew. As a wise professor of the NT once told me - you must always be careful not to make your own gospel by putting them together. We were given four gospels and yours isn't one of them:) The point being that you really need to be careful when studying the gospel to try to understand the gospel you are studying and not try to mash them together into one. In that case - this would be Luke. Now when we read Luke last night it really struck me that he maintains Mary's virginity and status as betrothed. This seemed to be in stark contrast to the preceding story where Elizabeth and Zacharias are clearly called husband and wife. The statements of "until" and wife are not found in Luke at all - they are only in Matthew. Anyway, it's a nice little read.

Apparently you were given four gospels and Matthew is not one of them.
