  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes. Depends on what she likes, as her likes change, so too do the gifts. Its my job as a husband to notice the changes and adapt the gift giving.

We dont do Valentine's day though. Something about society as a whole ignoring their significant other 364 days a year but making it mandatory to shower them with gifts/attention..... for the 1 annoys me.

Id rather try my best 364 days of the year and take that day off.

I think you're the only one I've met that takes the "holiday" that way :p

Dinner. Flowers. A letter if the mood strikes. Maybe a day trip. Hubby gave me an eternity ring a few years ago and had the waiter hide it in the dinner rolls. I was very grateful but I told him not to go to that extreme anymore. We live our love out 365 days of the year in various ways. It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary but I’m not into pressure to perform. It should be fun and organic. One of the most treasured things I have is a funny story he wrote to me on my birthday along with the gifts but I cherish that letter and it so so cute and humorous. I love the gifts and special things but sometimes the most special things are the most simple. :) Anniversaries are very personal. It does not mean a trip to Paris for everyone.

Oddly, I always forget the exact anniversary date - never can get that right, it's my husband who remembers it so I'm always playing catch up on it...

But we don't do gifts, dinner out usually. We do dinner out for most holidays like this, since I do the cooking at home and eating out gives me a day off... we do exchange meaningful cards, I keep on one hand always so I at least can pretend I didn't forget our anniversary date.

Im just glad I would have to try to forget ny anniversary. Since Im horrible with days and keeping track of what today is God in His wisdom......

.... He gave me a wife with a Birthday the day after a major holiday and our anniversary is a day after another major holiday.

So even my forgetful ignorant of what today is self knows to do something coming up based on commercials and hallmark specials.

Dear numberofstars,

We do different things but always acknowledge in some way the importance of remembering that special day when we become one. I love the story I rec’d this morning in an email. It really boils down to showing love and attention. It is the joy of marriage and the relationship. I hope it blesses you. By the way we have been married 58 years so each year becomes even more important. God bless you and your family.

Got this from Smith Wigglesworth's Devotional page.

A very poor man lived with his wife whose hair was so long it touched her waist.

One day the wife asked her husband to buy her a comb...
She needed it for her long hair..

She needed the comb to help her take care of her hair better so it could continue to grow well and to be well groomed.

The man felt so bad because he didnt even have enough money to fix the strap on his watch....
which had just broken.

The wife noded in understanding and did not insist.

On his way to work the man passed by a watch shop...

He sold his damaged watch at a low price...

He went to another shop to buy a comb for his wife...

He came back home in the evening with his suprise...
A comb in his hand ready to give to his wife...

He was surprised to see his wife with very short hair...

She had cut and sold her hair and bought a brand new watch for her husband....

Tears flowed simultaneously from their eyes...

Not for the futility of their actions...

But for the reciprocity of their love...

Love is when the other person's happiness is more important than your own.

Give love and show love where it matters and let it be the God centered love.

I really love celebrating our anniversary. My wife and I are almost at seven years, on the 12th of next month. I like to do gifts for her but mainly for fun to go with the theme. For the first year (paper) I wrote a sweet note, 2nd (cotton) we bought a new mattress around that time. 3rd was leather which was hard so I gave her a passport cover with her favorite bible verse (sadly we haven't gone anywhere to use it yet). 4th I think was flowers but I'm not sure. 5th was a bunch of stuff themed to fives but I did buy a wood spoon for the tradition. 6th was candy or sweets I think, and 7th is copper and wool. I bought a custom copper windchime with our names and a bible verse and I may do some other themes to go with 7th. It sounds like a lot but usual budget is maybe $50-100 max and I try to use my own encouragement cash to buy it.

We also try to go to a hotel usually within an hour from wherever we are living for a night or two.

We sometimes do a low key Valentine's Day bur don't do anything for Mother's and Father's Day because I have usually used up all my funds and ideas for April.

I rate this also as funny, in a sweet way.

I think that is a blessing. Two fun days to celebrate and then you can stretch it out into a three day weekend in some years.
