Chapter 1 Leo passed through the edge of the jungle onto the savanahas of the southern african grasslands. He followed a stream treading the soil of a nearby damp river. He passed fallen trees as he jumped over them. Finally, he reached a vantage point of changing landscape. Bushes and stubble brushing against his face, being weary of what lied ahead around trees had come to an end. He could see the horizon for the first time in weeks. He was hungry, motivated and refreshed at the change of scenery. Able to see the sunlight clearly and the change of pace. Even though hungry he was motivated, and refreshed. He swiftly ran down the hill that clearly marked the edge of the jungle and its thick vegetation which he had been inhabiting for what seemed like endless moon cycles. As he got to the bottom of the hill, he slowed down unsure of what he sensed ahead. Reminscent of childhood but menacing. The thought "there's no going back" came to him. He approached over the tall grass cautiously, quietly, to find a gazelle. He instinctially pounced. In that moment another lion also pounced, and Leo found himself in the fight for his life. The gazelle quickly jumped out of the way and Leo came crashing into the paws of an older lion. It took only a second for both lions to become fully virulent. Leo grabbed on to the side of his opponent, biting into his shoulder and neck as the other lion strook the back of Leo's head. the two lions lifted their paws to wrestle, with claws out. Leo managed to lift the other lion and toss him on his back. the other lion immediatly began running at Leo before getting back up. Leo with his hind legs kicked the other lion on to a nearby tree as the rival approached him. the lion immediately ran off. Leo chased him for a few moments but lost interest in fighting another lion quickly. He saw the lion disappear in the distance as he panted for air. Wind blowing in the distance a voice came up behind him. "Wheres our lion?" Leo turned around and it was a lioness "I had a bit of a run in with him." two more appeared from behind the first "What do you mean?" two more appeared from both sides of Leo's view He started to feel surrounded. He started backing away as the lionesses kept appearing. "I had to fight him" Leo said. "what",You fought Taurus" said one of the lionesses. "Yeah" "Did you win?" "Yes" The group began to gasp. "I mean no, I've got to go" said Leo. "Hold on wait, you said you won against Taurus, didnt you" A total of ten lionesses were looking at Leo. "I didn't mean to. Bye" Leo started walking quickly. some of the lions looked at each other. and started following Leo. "wait, whats your name?" "where are you going" "Look, I don't want any trouble. Whatever that lion meant to you, he took off that way." Leo nodded in the direction the other lion took off. and began walking again. "can we come with you? Where are you going" came an utterance from the lions. Leo stopped and said "No, to be honest I don't know where I'm going" "were coming with you" Leo started to walk and soon after the lions started to follow him. Leo walked for about a few moments before realizing he was being followed. Leo looked at the lions and told them to stop following him. but they didn't listen, they continued to follow. and it went on that way for a while. Chapter 2 Leo and the lionesses traveled towards north in search of greener pastures for two days. and during that time hunted. but found very little in the way of water and food. one gazelle couldn't feed eleven lions for very long and again by the morning of the third day, they were hungry and their chance came to hunt. They had been traveling upward towards a hill. When they reached the top of the hill, they could see a herd of elephants traveling in the distance. They walked down slowly to remain undetected As they prepared themselves to hunt the herd of elephants. They spread out into groups from behind the traveling herd, surrounding them from both sides as they got closer from behind the herd. This was going to be dangerous. More dangerous than the average hunt, for the obvious reason of hunting elephants. one would suffice. The lions looked at each other. Leo was nervous but excited and gripped the soil beneath him as he took off running behind from the fountain tall grasses. The other lions spurred into action. The elephants were mozeying along when suddenly one of the elephants in the back started to panic, pushing into the other elephants as it turned around. The others turned their attention to the elephant to find he had a lion on his back, digging its claws as it held to the backside of the large beast. The other elephants rushed to aid their kin but were were stopped by two approaching lions leaving their young unguarded. One of the lions attempted to maul one of the calf elephants, but wasn't close enough before a mighty elephant came swinging its tusks. The lion retreated for safety. Two came running at some of the vulnerable backsides of some of the elephants on the other side of the herd. The elephants were breaking formation and were losing their strength in numbers as the lions distracted attemped to distract thier attention. One of the elephants yelled " the children in the center" don't lose formation". Leo was thrown off the elephants back from its wild movements but landed on his feet, Soon things came to a stand still. Leo and his companions circled the herd with the dust settling around them. The elephants stood tall facing the lions forming a circle with their young protected by their elders. Leo looked at one of the elephants and said "look behind you." The elephant was suprised to hear the lion speaking to him, so he looked to find one of the calfes had been trampled as the other calf elephants looked on. He turned his attention back to Leo. Leo said "I won't let anything happen to it until its dead. If you give him to me. You know I'm telling the truth because otherwise we wouldn't be talking" The elephant thought knowing there was no way they could protect the little one for very long. He turned around to see if there was any sign of the little one getting up or liveliness but the calf just laid there. The elephant being spoken to looked at the adults of its group holding their guard. He looked back at the lion and said "out of our way" Leo yelled to the other lions "let them go" and the other lions backed away from the elephants. Leo and the other lions moved out of the way and the elephants walked past them. Leo immediately ran to the young calf to see how it was. The other lions began surrounding the fallen calf. Leo said "Its not dead." The lions said "good, lets eat." Leo said "I gave them my word I wouldn't let anything happen to it until its dead." "thats not ganna happen, maybe you shouldn't go around giving your word" said one of the lions. She pulled out one of her claws to strike the the fallen elephant when Leo got infront of her and roared. All the lions gathered closely, bewildered at his decision. "What are you doing?". "back off" Leo said. "Why do you want to keep it alive" Leo looked down, a little confused as to why he would want to keep the elephant alive. He said "I want to see what happens if we give the elephant back to its group." The lions bursted in laughter. Some of them falling on the ground. "You've got a weird sense of humor, Now please let us eat" One of the lions said. "No." "Your not joking?" "He's not joking!" There was howling and roaring all around the lion and elephant. They attempted to get close but Leo kept them away. The lions were tired and left to go hunting while there was still sunlight. The lions came back sometime around midnight with nothing to show for it. They told him to give up the elephant but Leo wouldn't Leo stayed guarding the small elephant as it layed on its side all evening till the morning. Chapter 3 In the morning Leo awoke to find the elephant staring at him. It had gotten up a moment ago. Leo stared back from the ground where he lay. two beaming eyes staring at him. He did not expect the elephant to survive the night but there it was awake, standing infront of him. It had only been knocked unconscious. Leo thought to himself "oh no". He thought he wouldn't have to worry about this by the morning. or at the very least didn't think this through. The elephant asked where his father and the rest of his group was. Leo just stayed quiet and looked around at the sleeping lions. "what did you get yourself into this time" Leo whispered to himself. Leo told the elephant to be quiet and follow him as he got up and tipped toed across the sleeping lions the elephant stepped on one of the lionesses legs and woke her up. The lioness immediately got up as the elephant yelled and scurried towards and hid behind Leo. "I'll make you a deal" "I'll stick with you if you don't eat the elephant" "why do you want to keep it alive?" "I don't know" Leo said. "alright" "How are you going to tell the others" "I'm sure they'll understand". The lion walked back to the place where she was sleeping She told the others to wake up. So Leo looked after the elephant, traveling with the pride of lions. Guarding the elephant from the lions and leading the lions and earning their trust. He would have conversations with the elephant. Asking him where his herd had gone. He said he knew but wasn't sure if they were headed the right way. they walked across the grasslands, occasionally the lions departing to go hunt, and seldomly finding a antelope or a zebra. Dragging peices of their hunt back to Leo. The elephant was disturbed to watch Leo eat. They continued to hunt as they searched for sustainance in the greener pastures of a thriving land. when they heard something they never heard before. Taurus was sore from the fight he had with Leo. He had not come to terms with the ramifications of his defeat, he had never been beaten before A snake came hissing and vulture came cawing. He quickly shook off his bruised ego and dusted himself off as he turned to face a pack of animals consisting of chimps, baboons hyenas, snakes, vultures and a cheetah. They asked him "where have you been" He responded "I was out hunting" "you look a little beaten up" One of the animals said. " thats because I was hunting elephants, no luck." Taurus replied. "is that how you lost the lions?" one of the heynas replied. they ran when we were hunting the elephants the animals looked at each other and said right. a hunter sat in his vehicle arranging his guns, knives, and his bag preparing to walk into the wild of the african grassland. He holstered his pistol and grabbed his rifle and bag. and headed out into the african wilderness. He trekked across the grassy plains until he could see something in the distance. He looked through his binoculars to find a baboon. The hunter thought to himself it was rare to find a baboon this far south and began following the direction of the baboon. The baboon was headed down the shade of a row of trees. The baboon was talking to a vulture high up. As the Hunter continued to stalk the baboon he noticed the vulture up in the sky. Then a hyena appeared. The hunter was amazed to see this interaction between the baboon the hyena and the vulture. He thought one of these would make a good prize for how strange they behaved. He Hid behind a tree as he steadied his rifle to aim it when he heard a snapping of tree branches to the side of him. He looked to find a cheetah slowly prowling towards him. It began to growl. The hunter stepped away to aim his rifle towards the cheetah. "good kitty" the hunter said as the hunter got the cheetah in his aim. At that moment a chimp jumped and grabbed on to the side of the gun causing the hunter to pull the trigger. The cheetah ran to avoid the rifle's line of fire as the gun recoiled. The hunter hit the chimp with his rifle and the chimp immediately retreated back into the trees. The sound of monkey screams rang through the trees "what is going on?" the hunter yelled, as he cocked his rifle. He began running through the wooded area of covered trees, aiming his rifle around him. Making sure that he wasn't going to be ambushed. Then hyenas, Taurus, vultures, snakes and the cheetah Ekos appeared from behind the trees. surrounding the hunter all at once. fastening their pace. The hunter gripped his gun trembling unsure which direction to aim his rifle, a vulture cawed he immediately fired creating an opening where heyenas stood. he ran passed the surrounding mass of animals looking back. He saw a vulture fly overhead pecking and clawing at his back scratching him. He stopped running to shoot the vulture. He aimed his rifle and shot at the vulture, and the vulture fell to the ground. The sound of animals could be heard closing in. He had neared a cliff which had a steep jump of 20 to 30 feet. He was not prepared for the hoard of baboons and monkeys that would come directly attacking him. He shot at them. and continued to do so. with his pistols. It was very strange to Leo because he could hear the sounds of monkey screams a lion roaring, and gunshots., Now Leo had never heard a gunshot before. But before he knew what to make of it a man came falling out of the cliff along with a long metal device and a satchel. He was curiously investigating these strange thundering echoes when Leo came across this where they had been coming from. Leo backed up a little. the man looked at Leo and began to pull ammunition out of his satchel to load his rifle. Leo looked at the man knowing the intent in his eyes and became less curious. He looked up at the cliff to see Taurus, Ekos, and a number of animals. Taurus's said "Kill him!". Leo's demeanor changed to embrace the severity of the situation. "Kill him, or he's going to kill you!" Taurus yelled at Leo. At that moment Leo turned to the hunter and ran at full pace. The hunter put in the last bullet, snapped the neck of his rifle, cocked it realizing he was out of time, turned it towards Leo. A blast from the rifle echoed, and the sounds of a man screaming were heard, as a lion growled. Let me know if I have posted something inappropriate on this post due to some violence in the story.
